I don’t know much about cats but when Boots is in the sun, he has so much orange. Cat is a tortoise shell cat and she’s mostly black and orange. I’ll always wonder if they’re related. The thing that causes me to think not is that Cat has been spayed. I think she was part of a barn cat program but I have no idea how she ended up at our house. She had to have been brought in from somewhere else. No one within miles of us would have gotten a barn cat. I asked everyone who lived anywhere near us and they all said no. I had gotten two barn cats but they were both white/gray kinda tabby cats who disappeared the first time I let them out and never saw them again.
Boots showed up as a small-ish kitten and he was so friendly. I should have had DNA tests done before we left Cat.
See how much orange is in Boots’ fur when he’s in the sun? His head is shaped almost exactly like Cat’s head . . but maybe all cat heads are shaped the same. I don’t know.
This morning I didn’t know where Boots was. Vince was in the dining room. I was in the living room. I said “Do you know where Boots is?” Vince said no . . then we heard a meow. He sounded like he was in distress so I got up, thinking maybe he had been closed in a closet or something. He was sitting at the bottom of the stairs just looking up .. instead of coming up.
I said “You can come up easier than I can go down!” He came up but I did go down to make sure he had food and water. He did so I don’t know what he wanted. He’s a cat . . he probably doesn’t know either.
When Vince and I started to go to town, Vince was going to take him to the sewing room and I said “He’ll probably stay in bed (our bed but on the folded comforter at the foot of the bed) and sleep the whole time we’re gone so we left him there. Sure enough . . we got back and he was still in bed asleep.

Our tuxedo cat was totally grey underneath. He was very long haired so we would take him a groomer and have him shaved every couple of years. He hated it but it helped with the hair matting. When shaved, he always looked like he was wearing grey long johns.

We had Boots shaved at the vet last year and he didn’t like it one bit but it was so nice without the clumps of hair falling out. No matter how much I brush him, he still leaves behind hair during shedding season. The vet here said NO . . do not do it so . . so far haven’t but he is one hairy cat.

I got a cat as a very young kitten. I started the bathtub washing routine and while he didn’t like it at first, he came to accept it. I did not blow dry him since he really did not like that sound.
It did reduce the hair shedding and I was able to keep him, even though I had been allergic to dogs and cats before.
I’m sure that Boots is old enough that he won’t like a bath, but it is a good idea for those people getting a kitten.

Speaking of whether boots and cat could be related, did you know cats can have multiple fathers in one litter> yes, they can… multiple fertilizations…. so you can have lots of really different looking kittens in one family ! Who knows. I’m glad he is doing better. Maybe no shaving him until he has a year in his new home. Kitty time is sloowwww…

I had heard that but had forgotten. We’re not going to get him shaved this year. He’s had enough trauma for a while.
