The gas man came this morning and looked at everything, listened to our ideas. They will put in a second tank if that’s what we want but he suggested changing out the 350 gallon propane tank we have for a 500 gallon tank. The gas man said he has friends who have a 350 gallon propane tank and all they have is a propane stove and they have to fill the tank every five years so I’ll be comfortable with a 500 gallon tank for the fireplaces and the backup heater. We had gas heat, water heater, dryer and stove in Texas and probably only filled the 500 gallon tank once a year.
Next, we went by the appliance store and ordered stove, fridge and dishwaser. The ony thing we’re not replacing now are the microwave and wall oven. The appliances in this house area all 17 years old .. probably close to 18 years so it’s a matter of time before one of this goes out. The dishwasher doesn’t do a good job at all of drying dishes and it’s terribly noisy. The stove . . besides being glass top and we knew that when we bought it but all the times when I talk about baking bread in the summer and people say they don’t bake in the summer because of the heat, I’ve never had an oven that I felt heated up the kitchen . . til this one. It honestly heats up the entire house. It’s time for both the dishwasher and the stove to go. The fridge works but I’m sure a newer one would be more efficient and since it’s a monster appliance, we wanted to get it while we can get one that all matches. The wall oven is kinda small and not so “in your face” so if we don’t replace it for a while and can’t get the exact same thing, we won’t be terribly sad but we’ll probably end up ordering a replacement, mainly because the current wall oven isn’t convection and I’d like that.
We had pretty much decided on what we wanted but checked everything out and ended getting what we thought we were going to get:
They said the stove could be in within two months. At one point we talked about getting the gas cook top with an electric oven but I really wanted the gas oven too so we went with gas everything.
The dishwasher’s estimated arrival is four months.
The Fridge:
I can’t find the link to the full depth fridge so the picture below is a counter depth fridge. We did what we said we’d never do again – bought a French Door fridge! We couldn’t get the GE Cafe model in matte white so . . we got this one. Never say never, right?
I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned this before but our fridge looks like it’s counter depth because it doesn’t stick out. I would think about it when I wasn’t in there and kept forgetting to pay closer attention when looking inside so the other day when Jeremy was here, I asked him. No . . full depth but they bumped the kitchen wall behind the fridge out when they built the house so it looks like a counter depth but isn’t. They did put a lot of thought into this house.
We don’t have a target date for the fridge’s arrival yet. That probably should be scary but our fridge is working fine so I’m not concerned. I’m just happy the decision has been made and thats one less thing I have to think about.

Whoop! So excited for you!

We will have almost matching stoves, right?
Donna Williams says
Yes, we will. 🙂

Oooooh…my favorite kind of shopping! Clothes…ah, I make do. Appliance shopping…I’m all over that. Yay, Judy.
Judy Laquidara says
I wish I’d known. I’d have had you do it all. It’s so hard to make up my mind what I want when I know I’ll have it for the next 20 years (probably til “The End!”), deciding what features I can’t live without, which ones are worth paying extra for, which ones I’ll regret not getting. I’m better off closing my eyes and choosing one. It didn’t help that there was nothing in stock to see that was what we were getting. It will all be a surprise . . a pleasant surprise I hope.

Beautiful appliances!

Oh, my gosh! I can’t believe it takes so long these days! I don’t think I’ve ever walked in to buy an appliance and not walked out with it being delivered within a day or two. The world is changing a lot!
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, like it or not, it’s what we now live with (and, for the record, I don’t like it). We’ve been in the appliance store at least half a dozen times in the last six months. At first, I said “No way” to waiting that long but now realize if I want something specific, I’m going to likely have to wait for it.

Judy, I finally have a matching kitchen after never having one for over 50 years. I also like white but they are now hard to find. Everything is stainless and hard to get. We needed a new fridge/freezer, ours died after 9 years. It cost about 2700. I loved it. Pull out drawer and huge fridge to put a turkey in to thaw, platters of food and salads for company, holiday dinners, leftovers I could find. Because we needed one immediately, we had to get the black. I do like the black. But, we had to buy a side by side which we hate. Shortly afterward, we decided to get a new dishwasher, stove and microwave. We had had everything for 14 years or so. Still working, but not well. I wanted all Cafe but timimg was too far out. And, unfortunately, out of our budget. I am so happy yhat you are getting everything you want. I would also get the new wall ovens, a microwave can be purchased anytime.
Happy cooking to you! You deserve it! You have a wonderful kitchen. Do you have a walk in pantry for appliances and some of your canned foods?
Judy Laquidara says
Thanks! Yes, the timing is a bit of an issue but since our current appliances are still working, we’re crossing our fingers and hoping it comes in before something breaks.
I have an entire “food storage room”. It’s about 10 x 12. Lots of storage and a rack for storing storebought cans. I love it!

I was so excited to get the French door refrig – we were very limited to what we could fit into our old house. And a freezer on the bottom! I thought I was going to love this refrigerator. I hate it. It is too small. Thank goodness we kept the old fridge and put it into the garage but I am not sure how much longer that is going to last…..And I hate the freezer on the bottom……I am glad the one in the garage had a freezer on the top and we have a full freezer also! Oh well, you live and learn….
Judy Laquidara says
I hated the freezer on bottom. Try to put something liquid in there without a tight fitting lid – something to cool quickly . . and it sloshes out as you close the door. Try finding something on the bottom! Our Samsung would dump ice while the drawer was open so the ice all went behind the drawer and we didn’t have enough space to pull the drawer out. Here, we will have enough space but we have two fridges with freezers on top in the garage and not sure what we’ll do with our side by side but we also have two upright freezers so hopefully, I won’t keep much in that freezer drawer but you know how I am . . give me a space and I’m going to fill it with something!

I like your new appliances. Tell Vince we are expecting a freeze Tuesday night and Wednesday morning! We are having unusually cooler temps for this time of year!
Judy Laquidara says
Of course! We leave and you get winter and rain! 🙂

My husband keeps grumbling about our refrigerator, but I don’t much want stainless steel (industrial looking) and really don’t want black, so will probably have very limited options! Then there’s the whole configuration debate. Ugh.
I forgot to comment on a remarkable statement a couple posts ago: you’re eating out?! And kind of liking it? Boy, that’s different! I suppose it’s the greater choice, closer to you?
Judy Laquidara says
The eating out is kinda intriguing for now because there are so many places to eat and such a variety of food. I suppose at some point it will get old and we’ll mostly stop doing it. Also, it’s been so busy and “abnormal” for us because we’ve had a lot going on. It seems there’s someone here almost every day to do something – gas man yesterday, different landscapers a few days to give estimates on redoing some of the landscaping, folks to give estimates on re-doing the deck, people who can give us ideas on a shop for Vince IF we decide to build one here. It’s hard to cook when there are so many interruptions every day. It’s much easier to eat out when we need (really!) something from town almost every day. I do expect things to slow down soon and return to normal.

OMG Judy
cannot believe the waiting times for your gorgeous appliances, i needed an under counter freezer last week due to us over filling the main freezer on our fridge/freezer ! Our freezer was working but it was 20degrees in the fridge!! Everything went off , oh how I hate having to throw food away. Unknown to us the top part of the freezer section is where the cooler is for the fridge and because it was too full it had frozen up with a sheet of ice inside. The lovely engineer said i had to defrost the freezer over 2-3 days, so determined not to throw away anymore food i ordered the little freezer to take the load of frozen food. Thankfully I had room in the corner and went with black, as its a receeding colour and I just do not see it. I went on line, ordered it and it was delivered the next day! This is the norm for this company. I have no idea if AO.com is in the USA, so I am glad its possible for us here in the UK, wish it was for you.
LisaS says
Congrats on the new appliances. I hope you have better luck getting your fridge. We ordered one back in September and we MIGHT get it by the end of May.
Judy Laquidara says
I think that’s why they didn’t even give us a date. I hope you gets yours soon and I hope you have a working fridge. Can you imagine what happens if the one we have goes out? We’re going to have to take what we can get!
