Yesterday Vince and I had been to town and decided to drive a bit down Route 66. It passes right through here so we drove through Cartersville and back up in that area. It was interesting – especially to think about the area back in the day when Route 66 was a major route across a large part of the country.
Then we drove around. Vince is determined he’s going to find a little farmhouse with some land and a shop at a decent price. This is not the era of decent real estate prices, with Vince’s idea of decent meaning low! But, we explored new areas and saw some pretty scenery.
We drove into a subdivsion with a cul de sac . . not what we were looking for but we were looking just to see what was out there. In between two houses . . there was an old cemetery!
I thought that was weird. It wouldn’t bother me but I’m just not sure I’ve ever seen anything like that before.

We have a small (3 graves…a man, woman, and a baby) gravesite in our subdivision. I thought it was very odd as well. However, you don’t see it from the street. The home lots are 2 to 3 acres, and it’s at the back between 2 lots. The family of those buried maintain the small area and have a bench there. Several buyers were not interested in the lots because of the graves.

There’s a small cemetery on the common ground behind the house two doors away from me. The family buried there owned the farm that became part of my subdivision and in a way it’s nice that people who owned and loved the land that I now own a part of and love are still there.

That’s kinda what I was thinking but it seems like a very large cemetery for family plot. I’m sure the people around it know the history so it really doesn’t matter that I don’t know anything about it but it was interesting.

When I was a real estate agent I showed a gorgeous house to a couple. It backed up to a small cemetary that looked to be pretty old. They were totally creeped out by it and refused to look at the upstairs once the saw the cemetary from the kitchen window. I’m sure that the owners had to drop the price of the house quite a bit in order to sell it when it finally sold, this was a huge house meant for a family and most young families won’t want to have that in their backyard! I loved the house though!

I can see how it would bother some. I don’t think it would bother me but buying a house is a pretty big commitment so .. maybe if I thought more about it, I might not want it. I can definitely see how it would make a house hard to sell or . . quiet neighbors might make it easy to sell.

Wouldn’t bother me. My cousin owns the family farm with a small family graveyard on it. If he ever sells, they have to make sure our family has access to that small plot of land. Consideration needs to be made that these were someone’s loved ones. I guess I’m a little weird because I like cemeteries.
