There’s an extensive list of items we have to have to get a driver’s license in MO – probably everywhere, but we happen to be trying to get one in MO.
It’s still crazy to me that a Texas Real ID Compliant driver’s license will get you on an airplane or in a federal building but yet MO will not accept the Texas driver’s license and a few other forms of identification to issue a Real ID compliant MO driver’s license. We have to go in there with the exact same paperwork as someone who has never had a driver’s license anywhere.
One form of proof of residence and ID is a bank statement with our current address. Our bank here had our Texas address so we went by today to change that. The lady helping us was frustrated with the DMV too because she said so many customers come in there who have been trying for months to get the documents needed to get a driver’s license.
The lady at the banks said . . it’s weird that they will accept a bank statement with your name on it but all we used to prove you’re who you say you are is your Texas driver’s license.
They will also use a Voter ID card to verify your identity to issue a driver’s license. Guess what we used to get our voter ID card – a Texas driver’s license.
We both have Texas Concealed Carry Permits. We have to go through all kinds of background checks to get that. Nope, not good enough to be used to get a driver’s license in MO.
When I asked if I could just get a non-Real ID compliant driver’s license . . nope . . still have to be able to prove the names you’ve used, when and why they changed . . since birth.
Maybe I’m wrong but I just don’t see how all this “hassle” makes a whole lot of difference in our safety when we have so many people coming across the southern border and fake ID’s, including very real looking driver’s licenses seem to be much easier to get than a real driver’s license.
It doesn’t matter . . they make the rules and we do as we’re told but it just seems to prove how out of control and out of touch with reality so much of our government is today. I have no solutions . . no suggestions for solutions .. just needed to vent a little.

Had to do the same thing in Ohio, it’s a pain in the rear for sure. I don’t think it makes one any safer when flying either.

It’s a good thing my state accepted my passport. I don’t have a birth certificate. I was born at home…..in Europe. Naturalization office accepted my baptismal certificate as my proof that this breathing girl in front of them was real 😉
The stories of craziness will never end!

****My sister was born in a US dr.’s office, and he did not register the birth with the county. So she has no birth certificate. Eventually she and my Dad went to court and got a form of some kind as a substitute, and she used it for a passport. Now she just has to keep that passport current so it will function as her birth certificate.

After getting the real ID license, and needing to get a certified copy of marriage certificate (did not need that for my security clearance), I told DH that if I’d known what a hassle name changes would cause now, I’d have kept my name. I suppose that opens a whole different issue of proving you are married to someone, or the parent if kids have different name. Women get to do more work no matter what it seems. grrrrr.
Some states want *all* names you’ve had between birth certificate and current? Yikes! I know a few women that the stack of paperwork would make the license person go pale. And yeah, once you got real ID in one state, it should carry over to all states, I mean it is a federal thing, not state.

Georgia changed a few years ago, been here my whole life, had to have a ridiculous amount of things to just renew my license, pure stupidity in my opinion, only causes problems for law abiding people…criminals aren’t gonna go this route, the powers that be are so out of touch with reality it’s getting scary!!!

Wow. Missouri is definitely the “show me” state! In TN, I just showed my South Dakota DL and I was good to go. It lasts six years now, but before I turned 65, it was good for until I turned 65. I renewed it online for another six.

I’m hearing that several states are picky like MO. We also have to show all the same paperwork with each renewal. How crazy is that? They do all their verifications the first time. Why do it again?? In TX we were able to renew by mail too but I’m betting that’s not possible in MO.
