Today was a busy but fun day in the kitchen. I’ve been wanting to make pasta for Vince and I’ve been wanting to try making it with squid ink so it would be dark. I wasn’t sure if it would taste weird so I made regular egg pasta and squid ink pasta.
Rolling the squid ink pasta out . . can you guess what I was thinking?
That would make a gorgeous linen for cross stitching! That’s what I was thinking.
By the time I rolled it out and tasted a piece of it, I knew it wasn’t going to taste any different from the plain egg pasta.
I had taken out a container of marinara and meatballs yesterday but we went out and ate Mexican so tonight I had the marinara for Vince. I made a shrimp alfredo sauce also since I don’t like red sauce. Vince ate some of that too and thought it was great! He also didn’t think the squid ink pasta tasted different from the egg pasta.
I was a little disappointed that the squid ink pasta didn’t taste different but I guess I would have been disappointed if it had tasted fishy so . . it tasted good so I’m happy and it was different. It’s fun to puree a bit of beets and make red or pink pasta at Valentine’s Day but, since I was by myself at Valentine’s Day, I didn’t do that either.
I had a royal mess in the kitchen by the time dinner was served. It’s somewhat clean. I’m tired so I’m sure it looks cleaner now than it’s going to look when I see it in the morning but with my aching foot, I think I’m done for the night.

The shrimp alfredo looks DELICIOUS. The pasta and alfredo definitely compliment each other colorwise.
Sorry your foot is hurting – don’t remember seeing/reading about you hurting it. Hope it feels better soon.

Foot? What foot?
Judy Laquidara says
Plantar fascitis. It’s about to kill me. If I sit and cross stitch all day, it isn’t bad but if I’m on my foot much at all – unpacking, cooking – I’m in serious pain. I see the doctor again tomorrow and I know she’s going to tell me to stay off it but that’s almost impossible with all that needs to be done around here.

My husband had a bad case of that a few years ago. Got a cortisone shot in his foot and it healed very quickly. No problems since but podiatrist told him no walking anywhere without shoes on. He keeps his shoes right by the bed and doesn’t walk anywhere without them.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, I was told that too and I’ve been doing good but I’ve gone barefooted for so long and wearing shoes is something I have to think about doing. It’s only been two weeks so I’m sure it will become second nature soon. Glad the cortisone shot helped him. I’ve had such problems with cortisone and steroids before that I try not to take them but if that’s my only option, I’ll probably do it.

I love pasta and yours looks so yummy! Sorry to hear about your painful foot. I did the injection earlier this summer, I kept putting it off but finally got tired of the pain. It was not fun getting the shot but the next morning the pain was gone. Oh my goodness I wish I had done it so much sooner. Hope you get yours to heal soon, it is not fun having pain in your feet.
Paula Nordt says
Judy, I had that in one foot. Got some inserts for my shoes and compression sleeves for my foot. Helped it heal up.
Judy Laquidara says
Were the inserts and compression sleeves from a Rx or something from Amazon or similar? Thanks!
Teri says
Do the cortisone shot and be done with it…..it will only get worse…if it is not taken care of….
Judy Laquidara says
I can’t take cortisone – most steroids in fact.

I had plantar fasciitis a few times over the years and ohmygosh, it’s painful. STRETCH your foot. I also got a Strasburg Sock to wear when sleeping. I bought mine from a running shoe store, but I would bet that Amazon sells them.
One time the steroid shot helped, another time it didn’t do a thing.
Hope you get some relief. Having PF made me feel 100 years old.

I had plantar fasciitis in my rt foot years ago. I did the stretching, the rolling over a frozen bottle of water, the tennis ball rolling, the ankle wrap, a boot at night (terrible!), finally I went to a podiatrist and got a set of orthotics made for both feet. $300 for a half sole type that I put a full length insole on when the first ones wore out. I have very high arches too. The dr. had told me it was inflammation that caused the pain and wrapped my foot in tape so it didn’t flex. It felt good, but not very helpful in the long run.
I’ve carefully bought shoes where I could pull the insole out and insert my orthotics. I still wear the orthotics in my regular shoes (have had to buy new $2 insoles several times, and cut them to fit) but I don’t have to wear shoes all the time and I don’t have any pain. It’s been about 15 years since I saw the podiatrist. Good Luck!
