Vince has now been here a week. He said this has been the fastest week of his life. I think he’s so glad to not be packing any more. We went by the storage building and got maybe 8 more boxes and brought them home. I unpacked one! All 8 are either kitchen or my bathroom stuff. I think he thought I was going to unpack them all today.
I told him it’s not a matter of taking the stuff out of the box and putting it on the counter top. It all has to go somewhere. I’ll unpack one box at a time and put it away, then rest for a day or so, then unpack another box. Not really but I’m kinda wondering how on earth we had all this stuff stashed in the Texas house which was much, much smaller than this one. Sewing room. Upstairs in the shop! Vince told me all along that everything wasn’t going to fit in this house and he may be right. Ouch! Did I just admit to that?
He asked me tonight . .
Vince: How many boxes did you unpack? (He knew . . he just wanted to see if I would admit it!)
Me: Almost a whole one.
Vince: How many will you unpack tomorrow?
Me: Maybe a whole one.
Vince: $10/day.
Me: That’s what you’re paying me per box?
Vince: No . . that’s what it costs for the storage units.
Apparently he thinks that’s a lot and I’d pay $20 or I’d let it all sit there for six months and figure anything we haven’t missed . . we probably don’t need, and get rid of it.
I suppose he did shame me into unpacking two boxes tomorrow.
I did tell him .. the advantage to not unpacking everything now is that if we move again, some of it is already packed and ready to go. NOT what he wanted to hear after having been here only one week.

You’re playing with fire, funny girl!
I just thought of “The Honeymooners”: “To the moon, Alice!”

I wondered how long it would be before the cost of the storage units would be an issue for Vince…his frugal nature is rearing its head. LOL

It at least makes him determined to get it all here. He is either going to build a shop here or buy some land with a shop on it . . just need time to find the right place.

You actually said that to him?!!? “If we move again, it’s already packed.” Oh yeah, playing with fire is right. But hopefully he will also start Unpacking boxes and bins. Of course it won’t all fit. It took years to stuff the Texas house. It will also take time for Vince to realize that neither of you actually need everything that was IN the Texas house. The cost of storage units is high, but he didn’t want to get rid of the stuff before leaving Texas so now you will both have to go through the boxes and decide on the location of contents in the new house.
It’s all normal!! And if Vince keeps mentioning how much the storage units are costing, tune him out and keep stitching.

He did get rid of a LOT of stuff in Texas but mostly stuff from the shop and not from the house. We both need to get rid of more. You’re right – it didn’t appear overnight and it’s not going to disappear overnight.

You literally gave me a laugh out loud moment. Move again? My next move (I pray), I won’t pack for and won’t have to dust when I get there!
Judy Laquidara says
That’s exactly what I’m hoping for too.
