I may have mentioned that I planted asparagus last weekend. Back in September, just a month after buying the MO house, and having no idea when we’d be living here fulltime, I ordered asparagus from a Plantworld, an Etsy seller. They were going to ship them in late winter or early spring and I had to write and ask them to hold them because we weren’t here and weren’t ready to plant them. It was getting late in the planting season so I wrote them a couple of weeks ago and asked them to go ahead and send them.
Saturday Addie and I planted them in the grow bags. I planted some in one gallon bags (one per bag) and then put 6 in bigger 5 gallon bags. Vince is going to build raised beds but I haven’t even mentioned that yet.
It’s hard to see but near the front right and back left . . asparagus!! I won’t harvest it this year. They are two year roots so next year I can harvest a bit but not much. After that, we’ll have all the asparagus we need!
Plantworld sells blueberries, strawberries and other things besides asparagus. I highly recommend them. Those were the nicest looking asparagus I have ever seen. The ones I ordered are all males so hopefully I won’t be spreading asparagus seeds to the yards in the entire neighborhood.

Maybe consider cattle troughs to assure no spread?
I’ve heard that’s the only way we should plant bamboo 😉

It was the spread from the female flowers producing seeds that I couldn’t keep up with. The spreading from the roots is easy to control, especially in raised beds.
