You know that at some point, it’s time to give up and get a newer pickup. I’m not saying we need a NEW pickup because Vince isn’t a pickup man but . . this poor truck has seen better days. Cosmetically, it’s probably in worse shape than it is mechanically so that means I think it should go and Vince thinks it’s like a new truck.
The driver’s side window doesn’t work. Well, sometimes it works so for all practical purposes, it doesn’t work because if you put it down, that may mean it never goes up again and with feral cats, raccoons, constant blowing dust and everything else in Texas, a window left down would not be good.
The air conditioner quit working years ago. The truck only got used for weekly trips to the landfill (less than 4 miles from home) and the occasional trip to Home Depot. It was going to be a warm day yesterday and with 10 hours on the road, Vince had to come up with a way to stay cool. Leave it to Vince.
He saw this on youtube. He took a bucket, drilled holes in it, put a styrofoam container in it and filled that with ice, and stck a fan so it blew across the ice. I’m sure I don’t have it all right but that was his air conditioning system.
He was quite proud of himself and his creation. He said it wasn’t as nice as real air conditioning but it helped. He’s so funny! I thought he was using a battery powered fan but that looks like a cord so he must have plugged an inverter in to the outlelt in the pickup. I have no idea and honestly, I’m afraid to ask for fear of getting a 2 hour education on how to build an air conditioner system using ice!
If you need air conditioning repair, Vince is NOT your man! If you need some really funny stories and extremely weird/cheap fixes . . give him a call! : )

He looks happy!! So glad to see his smiling face again. Actually I think the cooling system is quite ingenious. It reminds me of the evaporative coolers we use in the desert where a fan blows air across wet pads to cool the house. I’m so happy for the two of you to finally start life together again!

Leave it to engineers and architects to also be McGyver too. My husband is an architect and loves to come up with fixes and inventions like this. Keeps him off the streets! Congrats to Vince for a job well done!
