There’s no doubt Joplin traffic isn’t anything like some cities but there are a couple of roads that are just awful. The main road gets busier and busier as you go south. By the time you get to where it crosses under the interstate, where Sam’s Club is located, it’s just terrible most any time of day.
I definitely was not thinking this morning. For many years, I have known not to go to town or the grocery store on or near the first of the month. It’s a zoo! Add in a holiday and people shopping for Easter and yes . . it was a crazy zoo out there today.
I had told Addie that we would eat sushi, and we’d go to Hobby Lobby because she needed a few things from there. She’s doing a punch needle chicken and she wants it to be the same color as Opal, her favorite chicken. Opal lays blueish green eggs so, of course, the eggs have to be the exact color of Opal’s eggs. We bought floss, gel food coloring to dye eggs in the pressure cooker and got out of there.
We were at the restaurant when they opened at 11 but by the time we left shortly after noon, I was wishing I had not gone to town on the 2nd of the month, with it being a holiday. Staying home so much, I’m not used to driving in bumper to bumper traffic and sitting through several lights before I get to go.
All is well though. We got what we needed in town and made it home.

Any time I think of going to Hobby Lobby, I check the date and the time of day I can go. HL seems notorious for fewer checkers but stockers all over the place. I try to not go if it’s near Saturday or any day close to a holiday. Seems I always get behind someone checking out a basket with tons of wedding things, or full basket of greens/florals that have to be rung up one at a time. If it’s Tues or Weds with no holiday in sight, then, maybeee! I do love to go there though!

Addie loves going and since we do crafty things together, when I go with her, it’s almost always a weekend or school holiday but I get what she and I need and then go back another day if I want to browse.
I’ve had pretty good luck going early in the morning too but since we wanted to eat lunch today, I didn’t want to make two trips so we were there about 10:40. The store didn’t seem crowded and there were five checkouts open but still lines.
The store in Brownwood was never as busy as the store here but one store both places and many more people here.

I have learned not to go to grocery store on the weekend

When I worked, I always said I’d never go to the grocery store after 5 or on weekends once I didn’t work and I’ve tried to always live up to that. With Addie wanting to eat sushi, today was the only day we could do it and Vince will be here from now on so sushi trips will be few and far between so I braved the traffic and went.
