You all know how I try to think ahead and keep what I need on hand. Because the world is still a crazy place, if you’re a canner and if you’re hoping to make jams and jellies this year, please pectin and jars when you see them and don’t wait til you need them.
Think ahead and anything you can’t do without . . get it when you see it. Pectin does have an expiration date on it and I have used it past the expiration date and never had a problem but it isn’t something I keep for years and years. I do try to use it by the expiration date because it isn’t like throwing out a jar of green beans . . you will have wasted a lot of fruit and sugar if the pectin fails.
I have no idea if jars are easy or hard to find right now but Walmart does have several varieties of pectin showing online.

I was at HEB this morning and they had a full end cap of jars. All the sizes you could think of–only thing they didn’t have was wide mouth lids by themselves. They had them with rings, but I don’t need rings. I’ll keep an eye out for lids, and I need to do an inventory of what jars I have. I am gonna can something this year–don’t know what yet–but something. 😀

I think I’ve rounded up enough lids….both sizes. There still aren’t many around here. Had to order my pint freezer bags for sweetcorn from Amazon and they came this morning, so I’m good there too. Freezer bags haven’t been seen around here since last spring. The first ones I ordered I got a refund on because they were out. Even though I probably have enough for this year I may grab a few more lids & bags if I see them. Who knows what next year will be like.

I didn’t realize freezer bags were in short supply too. Thanks for that info.

I’m in Utah and I’m seeing jars everywhere but no lids of any size! I remember last year when no one had anything! I was fortunate to find what I needed before everything disappeared. I bought extra lids then too. Thanks for the heads up about pectin. I’ll need to check my supply to see if it’s expired. I also didn’t know about freezer bags. I freeze more than I can so I will start stocking up.

No lids of any kind in Minnesota or Denver. I have several friends and family looking for me. It could be even worse than last year.

I have purchased pectin in bulk from the Amish market in Odon Indiana for many years. Much less expensive and it keeps for years.

I usually do that too but mine is packed and I have no idea if I’ll find it before it expires so I bought the boxed pectin to have . . hoping I come across fruit I can use to make jelly and jam this year.

I went to Target yesterday for the first time since Covid, and they had many Mason jars…diff. sizes.
