This is why it’s so hard to buy linen online but . . I’m not complaining because obviously, I’m not having any trouble finding stuff to buy, but it really is kind of a guess as to what you’re going to get.
Here’s a photo of the linen I ordered and what it looks like with the light from my magnifying lamp.
Here’s what it looks like with natural light.
The picture on the website is more gray. The picture with the lamp is more peachy. The picture with the natural light is more white. The piece is actually a bit yellowish white.
Then I was thinking . . there are two needle shops, in different directions but about two hours from me. If I actually needed an exact color, I could drive to one of the shops and get it but, then I was thinking . . probably $35 in gas at today’s costs . . and who knows what gas prices will be in a month or so; probably $15 in tolls if I go to the Tulsa shop, lunch out for maybe $30 for Vince and me so that trip would cost me $80 but we’d have to eat even if we stayed home so I’m taking off $10 which is more than enough for us to eat at home so I’m back to $70. The piece of linen is $15.65. That means I could buy 4-1/2 pieces of linen that size instead of making the trip. None of those figures take into account that it would be at least four, probably five hours of being away from home by the time I drive, eat, shop.
Shopping in person would mean seeing more things to buy but, again, at this point, I’m not having any trouble finding things to buy.
For a girl who prefers staying home, I’ll just order four pieces in different shades and hope one works and that helps build up a stash for the next time I need a pieceplus I’m not risking my life while driving on I-44.

Hi
OMG I couldn’t believe the difference in colour from one light to another. I must be lucky as the 2 colours I bought online where as near as possible to my computer screen. Happy to say Squirrel colour! Was not too deep as it did look coral it has come as true red squirrel colour. I am so excited to look through my charts and make a decision. Maybe start small till I get use to stitching linen? Or just go for it? I will keep you posted.

I think I remember that you ordered from XJuDesigns. If so, I’ve never had trouble with her colors on my screen either.

Good job on rationalizing. I’ll have to try that strategy with quilt fabric.

Great rationalization. You also need to figure in wear and tear on the car. Plus, if Vince is with you, he’s going to find something to buy that you weren’t expecting to purchase and then there is the wear and tear on Rita. Buy whatever you find online, grab a few alternate choices and put those in you shopping cart as well. You will still be better off……says the woman who inherited her mother’s entire cross stitch stash. There are not enough minutes in three life times to stitch up her stash but gosh I enjoy fondling it even if I can’t stitch it all up.

I love the Silver Needle here in Tulsa. Hard to go there and not find something new to try, so many examples and love their selections.
