Today has been the perfect example of why I wanted to live closer to the kids. Even though I was able to come and see them four or five times a year, it wasn’t like being close and being a part of their every day lives.
This morning, after having car trouble and realizing they weren’t going to make it to Louisiana, which I think didn’t surprise them, they came by here, dropped Addie off, went to see about getting the car fixed and, in the end, had to buy a vehicle. They got back to my house about 5. They’re spending the night here, then leaving from here to go to Louisiana in the morning. By staying here, that takes about an hour off their trip, which I guess makes up or the hour we lose tonight. It is tonight, right?
This feels like family to me . . dropping in when not expected, leaving Addie with me when it wasn’t planned, spending the night because it’s convenient . . I love it.
If the fruit trees in Texas all being in bloom caused me to doubt our decision, today has confirmed that we made the right choice.

Reaffirmation is always good. It’s really true that you can’t have everything – it just is never all in one place. Maybe if you are a billionaire and can helicopter or fly your own plane, but otherwise, I don’t think so. I’m glad you had a great day.

They did . . it’s a used car – two years old I think . . but so much better than what they had.
