I have been wanting a fish sandwich from either Popeye’s or Wendy’s. Yesterday I left the dermatologist’s office and, taking the back roads, I took a somewhat non-direct path to Popeye’s. I don’t know Joplin well enough to be getting off the main roads but I made it and waited quite a while in line at the drive through. Here’s how my order went:
Me: I’d like a fish sandwich and an order of beignets.
Lady: I’m sorry. We’re out of beignets.
Me: OK. Can you add a small order of shrimp?
Lady: I’m sorry. We’re out of shrimp.
Me: OK. I guess I’ll just have a fish sandwich and a Dr. Pepper.
Lady: I’m sorry. We’re out of Dr. Pepper.
Me: OK . . cancel my order please.
Good grief .. how can they be out of EVERYTHING? Either I chose the most popular things in Joplin to want to order or they have an issue with inventory. I left there and went to Wendy’s. Got a fish sandwich AND a Dr. Pepper.

Ok, now this is crazy. I live in Virginia and when I went to Popeye’s recently, they were out of chicken. What?! Why were they even open? Must be a nationwide problem for Popeye’s. Ha! 🙂

Popeye’s started in Louisiana in the early 70’s and always had the best chicken and biscuits. At some point, not too long ago I think, it was bought out by Restaurant Brands International and, in my opinion, is nothing like it was when it was a Louisiana based company. A Popeye’s opened in Brownwood maybe three years ago. I was so excited. Went there once, it was disappointing and we never went back.
The only reason I went here is because I wanted beignets and a flounder sandwich but I doubt I ever go back to another one.

i loved popeye’s but we movrd about 15 years ago and there were none here. About 3 years ago one opened the next state over, so we made a day trip there for lunch about 2 years ago. awful! will never go back, but nice to know it’s probably because of the new owners rather than the original company.

My sister-in-law went to Wendy’s two week ago to get a baconator only to be told they were out of meat. Lol. She wasn’t very happy.

I think Wendy’s only uses beef that has never been frozen (could be wrong about that) but it seems I heard that when there was a meat shortage and they didn’t have burgers because they couldn’t get non-frozen beef.

There are shortages of many items here all due to the pandemic. Some of the processing plants have been closed temporarily because of Covid cases, and shipping depots have workers spread out to limit contact so everything takes longer to do.
Many of these small places are struggling and unfortunately there is nothing that they can do. However, I am in Ontario, Canada and we are only a few weeks out of lockdown and cases are rising a little again.
I see the adds for VRBO on TV and wish that we could travel a little. Maybe by Fall?
Judy Laquidara says
I understand about the shortages and supply issues but Popeye’s has had these same problems for a few years now. They were out of Dr. Pepper! No one else in town seems to be out of Dr. Pepper. Wendy’s has fish sandwiches and Dr. Pepper!
It does seem that as soon as lockdowns are lifted, the numbers go up but hopefully for y’all that won’t go up much and things don’t go back into lockdown. It’s a tough call. Businesses can’t survive with long term lockdowns; humans can’t seem to survive when they’re lifted.
How are vaccinations going there?

I purchased my very first fish sandwich at McDonald’s the other day. It was good. I do not normally ever do fast food. Judy and other DP drinkers, a person I knw that works at a convenience store in Hunt County, TX, told me Wednesday that the COKE delivery guy told her there would be a shortage of coke and DP in a couple of weeks due to so many employees out from work. Now I do not know this for a fact but thought I should spread the gossip to DP drinkers.

And I went to Panera’s last fall to get a salad around 11:45am and they were out of lettuce.

You never know. I do realize the pandemic is real and it has affected so many areas of our lives but I also feel some companies are using it as an excuse to do a poor job of inventory/supply chain control, as well as not scheduling enough workers because the consumer can be told “sorry, there’s as pandemic going on”. There has been a shortage of cans that has affected some sodas.
Aldi seems to have stopped carrying Dr. Dazzle and while waiting/hoping for them to restock, my supply is low so just in case, I’ll add DP to my grocery list! Thanks for the warning.
