Ann Morison is a reproduction sampler done by Hands Across The Sea, and I love all their samplers though I’ve only purchased a few of them and never stitched any of them.
Ann Morison is being done as a Stitch Along that began in January (I think). I had planned to order it but a blog reader, who has become my late night phone buddy, had ordered it, decided not to use it and sent it to me.
I ordered the DMC floss to stitch it.
My friend sent the fabric she had ordered to make it. It’s 30 count and the color is Victorian Sponge Cake.
There’s hardly a day that goes by that I don’t get this fabric, chart and floss out and want to start stitching but . . this is my first reproduction sampler and I really want to use silks to stitch it but if I use silk floss, I need a higher count fabric. It’s a real battle in my head! One day I say . . the stitches aren’t just regular cross stitches and some of them are hard so just use the DMC and the 30 count fabric . . and I decide I’m going to start on it the next day. Then, I get up and think . . I’m going to be sorry if I don’t use silks and I put it away again so, in effect, I’m truly paralyzed by the indecision. Everyone else is stitching away making great progress and I’m left behind . . by my own choice.
Today I was talking to Vince and he asked what I had done since I got home from the doctor. I told him a few things then told him I was trying to decide if I wanted to stitch this sampler with cotton threads or silk and told him I really want to use silk but then I’d have to order a different fabric. I didn’t say this but I have lots of fabric but nothing as white-ish as I’d like for this one. He said “Think about it and decide what you want to do. I’m sure you’ll make the right decision.” Huh? Vince? Is that really you? He didn’t say “Do whichever one costs the least amount!” Of course, he has no idea about the difference in cost of silk vs. cotton but that isn’t something he needs to know, right? So, I’m thinking he was encouraging me to order the silk . . so I did!
The nice lady at Traditional Stitches said “Do you want Soie d’Alger or Soie 100/3?” Hmmm . . I don’t know. Then she said “What count fabric would you like to use?” Hmmm . . I don’t know! I told her that I want to use one strand of floss. She said “OK. Do you want 37 count or 46 count?” I am not ready for 46 count so she’s sending me 37 count and she knew which floss I needed based on the thread count of the linen. She said what she was sending but I forgot.
I’m still waiting on two orders from them – one from early January and they’re waiting still on some of the fabric, and one from late February and it includes a chart that is just now getting released. So, I have no idea if they’ll send the silk floss and fabric now, or wait to send it when they have the other orders ready. It doesn’t matter to me . . I’ll be happy when it gets here.
There is one color – the aqua, and maybe a beige/yellow, that I think don’t show up well enough so I may go ahead and order floss that is one shade darker, as soon as they post my invoice to my account so I can be sure which floss they’re sending.
Anyway . . glad to have that decision made and I can clear some space in my head for something else that I can dwell on!

Pretty chart. I love all of hers also. Haven’t bought one yet tho. I did however just start a Heaven and Earth Design full coverage! I’m crazy! And I so love your thought process on what Vince said. I’m sure that’s what he meant ?
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, you are crazy! 🙂 No, those are so gorgeous but I’m not sure I’d ever be brave enough to try to stitch one. Which one are you making?
Terri says
It’s pretty fun so far, but I’m only 700 stitches in! I’m doing Mini The Flower Mart, 75,879 stitches. But I just love old bicycles and it’s mainly a challenge to myself to see if I really can do it. I’m doing it on 28ct Lugana, thank goodness for pre-gridded fabric! The Xs are sooooo tiny. AND thank goodness for Amazon and 5.0 readers! 🙂
Judy Laquidara says
28 count is small Xs. Good luck. I may need to get some better readers too.
Susan Nixon says
It is pretty. How many charts do you have going right now?
Judy Laquidara says
Four projects going but one is an all year stitch along.

Are you ordering from Traditional Stitches in Canada? Or is there one with the same name in the states?
