My wake up time depends totally on what time I go to bed. Sometimes, without Vince here, I go to bed at 3 a.m. and then I sleep til 8 a.m. When we’re together, we pretty consistently go to bed about 11 and wake about 5:30 but without him here, I stay up way late and he goes to bed way early. He often calls about 9:30 and tells me he’s going to bed. Since he doesn’t know what time I’m waking up, he texts me when he gets up in the morning. Sometimes he sends those texts at 4:30 a.m. It’s rare that I wake up and don’t have a text from him.
Last night I was really tired – still recovering from the weekend with Addie and the blog stress and I went to bed about 10:30, which was way early. I woke up before 5, stayed in bed til about 5:30, got up, showered, got dressed and by 6, I didn’t have a text from Vince so I called him. He didn’t answer but I doubted he had the phone in the bedroom. I called on the tablet and he didn’t answer that either. I was kinda getting concerned so I waited about 15 minutes and called the phone again. When he answered, I could tell he was still sleeping. Instead of saying “Hello”, he said “WHAT’S WRONG?” I said nothing! I was concerned because you hadn’t texted me. He said “Something has to be wrong if you’re awake before I am!” I just now talked to him again and he said “Whatever you do, don’t call me in the morning! I’ll text you when I get up!”
All that reminded me of when I lived in Texas the first time and had a kidney stone. It wasn’t my first one so I knew the routine. It was before 6 a.m. and my ex had already left for work. Chad was 3 and I was trying to think of anyone I knew that might be awake that I could call to come stay with Chad while I drove myself to the ER. There was an older couple we were friends with and I knew they’d be up. I called and the lady answered. I said “Dorothy, something is wrong!” She started laughing and said “I knew that! You’re up!”
They came immediately. The husband stayed with Chad and she insisted on going to the hospital with me. Nice people! But, everyone who knows me knows I don’t like getting up early . . though most days I do!
Tomorrow Vince has a dentist appointment and I have a dermatologist appointment so we’ll both be up and out early.

You sound like my hubby and me. He goes to bed really early. I go to bed really late. After nearly 40 years together, it’s still unchanged. We just laugh about it!

I really try to go to bed when Vince does but most nights it’s hard to do.

Many nights we were both “going to bed” at the same time, too early for my “clock”. It was okay if I read or was on the tablet, but at least I was there, where he liked me to be. Getting/waking up….he was almost always earlier than I was! I have really never been a morning person!
