While at Aldi Monday, it was so nice to pick up things I saw that looked good that would never have been on my shopping list . . salmon, scallops, croissant buns. I wasn’t sure what I would make with the croissant buns but I’ve thought about it and one thing I’m going to make is a little bread pudding using those and some other bread I have here.
This morning I woke up wanting a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. I was still in bed. It wasn’t nearly daylight yet but I thought about those croissant rolls, hopped out of bed and fixed myself breakfast.
I’ve so much enjoyed making my grocery list over a couple of weeks and then picking up curbside. Going up and down the aisles, often back and forth a few times, long lines at Aldi, . . I just don’t enjoy that. I do enjoy seeing things I wouldn’t have seen or tried otherwise. Once Vince gets here, he’ll want to go to the store at least three times a week but he doesn’t always buy things I would buy. I’m thinking maybe I’ll do curbside pickup and then make an Aldi run every couple of months. I’ll see how long it is before I’m missing seeing new things after Monday’s trip. My guess is about six weeks . . . we’ll see.

I sure give you a lot of credit for cooking like you do for only yourself….

I have to eat and it might as well be stuff I love and it might as well be quick and easy and taste yummy. I do look forward to meals. 🙂

Me, too. Very seldom ever eat at fast food places. Rather eat my cooking than be so disappointed in a meal that is just okay with a not okay price.

Exactly! Home is where I’d rather stay and eat!

My shopping routine used to be Aldi’s, Sprouts, Walmart Neighborhood Market. And in that order since I do errands starting with the furthest out and returning home. But, I’ve been doing the WM option for a year now since it is closest but also the store where I can get the most items at one time.
I like Aldi’s since I also like to find those interesting items and the weekly ad is so tempting. I like Sprouts since the meats, veggies and bulk stuff are good. The “clean food” to eat are one thing, the other stuff is not so cheap. And, the local WM is reacting to the competition and improving their supplies. For example, the lamb selection is great – ground, chops, legs, etc. I can get ground bison, grass fed beef, and veal.
Maybe next week, I try the three shop excursion. There are some items that I could stock up on….bread pudding stuff, cheeses, etc….

I think my days of going to three stores in one day are over. There are 7 Walmarts close to us, two Aldis now and I heard there’s going to be another big grocery store coming that everyone raves about. We have a Natural Grocer and a Harp’s but I think for the amount of people in this area, we’re short on grocery stores. I’ve only been in Harp’s once. I love Natural Grocer – shopped at the one in Abilene and, of course I love Aldi but WM is 5 miles from my house and the others are at least double that plus I have to smack dab into the busiest part of Joplin so . . WM curbside will still be where I get the bulk of my groceries. I’m getting my first order from MisFits this weekend and the CSA boxes will start in May so I’m anxious to see how that goes.

We have been using Imperfect Foods since late last Fall. Now FarmBox out if Dallas is delivering in our area. I switch back and forth as to who has what we need available. And then HEB fir everything else. Even that I have delivered!
Judy Laquidara says
I saw FarmBox. I may try that one if they deliver here and see what I think. Thanks!

We regularly shop at Trader Joe’s and ShopRite, although my husband does most of the shopping if my pain level is to high. We went to ShopRite a few weeks ago and it was the first time I’d been there on a Saturday afternoon in over a year. It was so crowded it was overwhelming. No social distancing was possible…I got very claustrophobic and by the time we had to wait in the very long lines, my pain level had skyrocketed. I had to go wait in the car. I haven’t been shopping since. This week is a Trader Joe’s week, where they keep the number of the people in the stores low. I haven’t gone lately because you have to wait outside and it’s been so cold…the cold triggers my pain and it’s not worth it. Not sure if I’ll go along. Our Aldi here is so dirty and the shelves have been close to empty the few times we’ve gone. Haven’t been back since Covid. My kids love it. Go figure! Lidl opened here yesterday and once the crowds die down we’ll try that.

I used to and (1) I wanted to shop every day and (2) the house was getting full. Remember the candles from a year or so ago that people were going nuts over and searching all over trying to find? Guess how many of those things I moved??
