I kinda feel like I’m pretty observant. I’ll say to Vince “did you see this or that? He never notices anything. I’ll even sometimes say “I think there’s a spot on the wall by the door.” He’ll look over at it and say “No. I don’t see it” when it’s plainly there.
Yesterday when I was cooking my food out on the hot plate on the deck, I walked through the sunroom and looked up at the fan.
I’m not saying I’ve never noticed the basket part of the fan before but if I have, I don’t remember. It’s like there’s a basket on top of the light and blades.
I turned around and did a double take and thought . . how have I never noticed that before. It seems like I remember saying to Vince that I liked that fan and Addie’s room needs a new fan because I remember him saying that wasn’t a fan that would look good in Addie’s room. What that meant to me is that he is NOT taking down a fan in the sun room, putting it in Addie’s room, buying a new fan for the sun room and putting it up. He can buy one fan, put it up and be done. It had nothing to do with what would look nice in which room so that made me giggle . . to myself, of course. What I was saying was “Hey . . I like that fan!” By the way . . Addie’s room needs a new fan.
But I really don’t remember that basket thing on top.
Then I thought . . that would be a good place for dust to collect if that fan was in Texas where it was so very dusty.
Maybe I have been here too long alone. I was able to spend way more time than necessary thinking about that fan.

Just to know, it takes an hour to take down a fan, and an hour to put one up. Doesn’t even have to be the same fan. I’ve done fans with my husband four times now. He does the work at the top of the ladder and I stage stuff and hold up what he needs. We did the dining room fan together, an hour to remove the old fan, an hour to put up the new fan. We took down the mbr fan and then put it back up when he found no wire for the lights had ever been pulled down from the attic, and already knew he couldn’t get into that section of the attic.
Last year our son moved near us (12 mins away!) and asked for help in putting up two identical fans, one mbr and one family room. My hubby went over, worked for 45min, then called me to bring him a certain tool and stay and help him. He hadn’t been able to get the ceiling plate off that the builders left over the ceiling box for the fan. It took us all of two hours to put up the two fans in that new house. Our son said he thought it would only take a few minutes per fan!! HA! I told him we knew how long it would take because we’d done this before. (I don’t often get to mention my years of experience in a non-judgmental fashion.)

We’ve changed them pretty often and IF I had wanted that fan in the bedroom, I wouldn’t have minded the time to take it down and move it and put another one up. We changed the fans in both extra bedrooms in Texas not long ago. I think it took about 10 to 15 minutes to take each of the older ones down though . . maybe an hour to put it up but you never know what you’ll run into. Actually, Vince will probably pay an electrician to come change the fan in Addie’s room because we want to put a longer pole on the one in the family room and the one in the bedroom Vince will use for an office, we want to change it too. Vince is more inclined to pay someone to come do things like that these days.

Is the basket a shade for an uplight? It’s a pretty fan.

I have no idea. Tonight I’ll pull the light chain a couple of times and see what happens. Thanks!

The basket is the housing for the motor,

too funny…being in Texas the first thing I thought of was it being a dust magnet!
