The night the mixer bowl got stuck, after trying unsuccessfully to get it loose, I took my turkey baster and squirted a little cooking oil around the base of the bowl, thinking that might help loosen it. The next day, which might have been yesterday but maybe not . . I tried a couple of times. It wouldn’t budge. I put the left side of the mixer against the side o the appliance garage to keep the mixer from moving while I was trying to twist.
This morning I tried again and it came loose. Yay!
It does only happen when I’m kneading bread. I have a Bosch Universal mixer which is better for bread dough, but I don’t like it for anything else and it isn’t here yet. I also have another mixer I had bought for the apartment. It’s a nice one . . maybe a Cuisinart. I do have it here but it seems pretty wimpy compared to the old Hobart made Kitchen Aid.
I think what’s happened is after 30+ years of use, the pointy edges of the part that screws into the base have worn down and the bowl “screws” in farther than it should with the constant beating in that direction on those longer bread kneading runs. I most always knead bread by hand but once the Bosch is here, I’ll use that but . . once the Bosch is here, Vince will be here and he can always get the Kitchen Aid bowl loose. He’s so useful to have around! 🙂

Wonder if a bit of nail polish on the end that is ground down might help? Otherwise, reach out to KA and see if they have a solution.

My older Kitchen Aid mixer bowl did this a couple of times. I just looked on a parts website (look up Kitchen Aid Parts) anyway, they have a replacement screw cap for I think it was 17.00

Is that the bottom thing that the bowl screws into that I need to replace? Thanks!
Romonia Dinkla says
That’s what it looks like to me.

Look at that, Judy!! You have solved several problems on your own, without Vince! You can do this!

I’ve just been lucky that my problems were easily solved.
