A friend from Louisiana had posted on Facebook and I just saw it but I think it was Friday or Saturday this happened. He and his wife have always been cat lovers. Apparently they had an outside cat that was a bit wild but probably not as wild as Cat. My friend went out early that morning and saw that the cat was sick. He went to see about her and she bit him – seriously bit him – for sure on one hand, maybe on both. I was reading quickly and didn’t get all the details. I think he went in to clean up his wounds, came back out and the cat was dead. He went to the ER and is still not out of the woods with that bite. The cat had rabies so now he’s dealing with infected wounds and having to take rabies treatments.
That’s exactly why I was determined to catch Cat and get her vaccinated.
If you’re feeding feral cats or have stray cats around, please, please be careful. You don’t have to be trying to pet them for them to attack if they have rabies.
I will be sure anyone who buys our Texas house knows that Cat was vaccinated in May, 2020. If it were me, I’d be fine with going two years before the next vaccination but they can make their own call about that.

I’m so sorry for your friend….

Ohmygosh, how scary for your friend. Hope he recovers fully.

Prayers for your friend, I’ve heard those treatments are not fun, but maybe they’ve improved over the years. Poor kitty too.
Judy Laquidara says
From what he said, they are quite painful.

I’m so sorry your friend is dealing with this. Bad cat bites are very painful. I think I told you about the patient I had once who had to have home IV therapy for several weeks due to a cat bite. I’ve also had to be on antibiotics due to one of our cats biting me badly. Donnie had to have the rabies series a few years ago after he trapped a coon on our back porch for a friend. When he was transferring the coon from one cage to another, it turned around and bit Donnie through a Kevlar glove. That was a nightmare!
Judy Laquidara says
Through a Kevlar glove? Oh, goodness, I never knew about that. So sorry but glad he’s ok. Do you always get ok after being bit by a rabid animal?
Sheryl says
These days, I would say probably so. I would of course say it would be best to follow the physicians advice and follow rabies protocol. It’s not pleasant at all as Donnie can tell you but it saves lives. In older times, people did die after being bitten by rabid animals. Modern medicine thankfully has changed that.
He learned his lesson. He says his friend will have to trap coons if he wants them. He invited Donnie to dinner later but he declined. That’s not in our food set but different cultures have different food sets and we don’t judge. 🙂
