Yesterday afternoon Rita started barking. She usually grunts when she wants to go out but I took her out, and checked her heating pad to be sure it was on. It goes off every 12 hours but I try to hit “reset” before it goes off. It was on so I left her alone. After while she started barking again. It was a bit before her feeding time but I fed her and then I went to take a nap. I could hear her barking before I fell asleep but she had been out, her heating pad was on and she had been fed. That’s all I could do.
I got up from my nap and she started barking at me so I went in there. Heating pad still on but I felt it . . nope, not warm.
I told Vince I wasn’t sure what I would have done if I hadn’t had an extra one. I got the one out of her bassinet since she doesn’t sleep in there any more. I still have one more because I had bought one for downstairs. Since they stay on 24/7, I can’t expect them to last very long but I definitely need to make sure I have at least a couple of extras since she gets really vocal when the heat goes off.
What on earth would we have done with her if we had been in Texas without power? I guess I need to look for a battery powered heating pad! Seriously if we have a gas stove, I guess I can heat the water so I should buy a water bottle thing. What are those called? Isn’t there something you put warm water in and put it under your covers and it keeps you warm? Do they still make those? I guess that’s another thing I need to add to my prepping supplies! 🙂

Good old hot water bottles…..I remember there was a “red” one that my parents kept in the bathroom to use when needed. Of course, that was EONS ago, LOL.

The red hot water bottle. Part of my youth. I actually had one until a few years ago.

Good old hot water bottles! Yep, Amazon seems to have an unending supply, and they’re not just red anymore! All the colors, sizes and covers to go on them. Great idea! I think I’ll need a couple of those myself.

I got a power bank with AC outlet from Amazon. It’s about 4″ x 6″, maybe a little bigger. It has been a lifesaver when my power goes out. It is rechargeable and has AC outlet, USB outlets, plus several others. You just have to check the wattage, so you know what you can plug in. I think is was $100, maybe a little more. Oh, the best thing is can also “jump” a car battery. I had to use it on the riding mower at my bay house last spring and it paid for itself with just that. I didn’t have to call the serviceman.

Do you have a name or link for this? I live in Houston and need something to run a nebulizer when the power goes out. It was the only thing we really needed in last week’s adventure.

I know you do not like microwaves but I have made rice/bean bags that you warm in it. Nice to have on cold night, to warm up the sheets or my feet at the end of the bed. Rita might enjoy a big warm bean bag of her own. A minute or so on each side is all it takes.

The microwave won’t work if the power is out and if the power is on, the heating pad works! 🙂
Nope . . even that nifty idea isn’t going to make me use a microwave.
