I spend half my time on Accuweather. I miss my own little weather station that isn’t here yet but I love weather. I usually have the weather forecast for Lake Charles, Nevada, Brownwood and here memorized but with our weather being so cold, with ice ad snow, I’ve been watching our weather and Chad’s weather and not paying so much attention to Lake Charles or Brownwood.
Last night I was talking to Vince and he said the realtor is coming out a week from Friday to take pictures because she wants to wait til the weather is better. I knew it was about to get cold there but I asked Vince how cold it was going to be and he said “Cold!”
I looked at Accuweather and gasped!
It is going to be -3 in central Texas on Monday night. That never happened while we were there. I started firing of things he needed to do. They have ice predicted for a the next few days and if the power goes out there, we have no water because of the well. He said he had recently started the generators so he was good. He has a fireplace with plenty of wood. He has a grill with plenty of charcoal. He isn’t concerned.
That weather is pretty unbelievable.
But then, I looked at our weather again. I had thought after Sunday, we were going to start getting warmer. Not so!
Our high on Monday is 5. The low is -9. That’s not the coldest it’s ever been here but it’s the coldest I’ve ever had.
The schools here were closed all this week and they’ve already announced they’re closed for Monday of next week . . at least where Addie goes to school. I hate to tell them but I have a good feeling there isn’t going to be any school on Tuesday either . . snow and -9 on Monday night! It’s going to be -16 at Chad’s. I wonder if they’ve ever missed 7 straight days of school here because of the cold/winter.

Texas misses you and is trying to woo you back.

Hopefully this cold will take care of some of these insects like grasshoppers.

Judy, an excellent website to check for weather is: http://www.weatherunderground.com. One of their features is a great 10 day forecast. I find this site to be more accurate with their forecasts over NOAA and Accuweather. Two weeks ago we had nearly four feet of snow over a 7 days period and Weatherunderground really nailed it with the temperatures and amount of snow fall to expect. Just a suggestion.

I do use that, along with Weather.com but have found Accuweather to be more accurate. It’s all hit and miss when it comes to forecasting the weather. Our weather station in Texas is connected to weatherunderground.

Wow, I’m shocked to hear that you’re getting this shot of cold weather. We’re having extremely cold weather here in SD as well. The overnight low was -19 and high today is -2. It was -6 when we left for school/work this morning. It’s supposed to be low of -21 through Sunday and “warm” up on Monday with a high of 19.

You make me thankful for our weather. Schools have been closed all week here and will be at least Monday of next week. Looking at the weather here, my guess is Thursday of next week is the first day they have a chance of re-opening. This weather is unusual for SW MO and for sure for central Texas. Here in MO, we get that a couple of days a year but it’s going to be two weeks that it’s not been above freezing and that is weird for here.

Haha!! I’ve got y’ll beat! Here in Northern Wisconsin it was -30 when I left for work this morning!
Judy Laquidara says
That’s definitely cold but I think that might be a bit more expected in northern Wisconsin than in central Texas, where our summer temps often top 115.

You are right, this is not normal for us. But I do remember a time in the late 80’s when it did not get above freezing for 2 weeks straight. We had 5 fires in that 2 weeks. One was downtown and was across the alley from my husband’s business. The firemen would come into his office to warm up by the fire. Their gloves were frozen so hard they would stand up straight! Icicles from their eyebrows and eye lashes. It was well after midnight and they were freezing as well. It was time for us to have one of those freezes! But look at it this way, two weeks from now it may be in the 70’s and we will be wearing our shorts and flip flops again! LOL
Judy Laquidara says
We actually have nice people all around us here. There’s one couple I particularly like.
You may be wearing flip flops in shorts but in MO, I have a ways to go before that happens. Our winters generally stick around. One year, I was so anxious to plant my garden and looked out the window on Mother’s Day and it was snowing.

Our high here in NE Nebraska is supposed to be 1* tomorrow, -5 high Sunday with -28 low, Monday high -8 with -22 low with a -28 wind chill. By Wed. a high of 9*. With a chance of a least some snow every day. A week from Tues. it could get up to 40*. Absolutely crazy swing. The cats usually like to go out for a little while in the evening but are staying far away from the door now. I can’t blame them, I’m not going out either!
