Last night, it was about 11:30 when I started to go to bed. I picked up my phone to take in the bedroom and just about the time I crawled into bed, the phone rang. It was Chad. He goes to bed early because he’s up by 5 or so. My first thought was that something was wrong because he wouldn’t be calling me that late. I said “Hello”. In a sleepy voice, he said “What do you need?” I said “Nothing. Why?” He said “You just called me. I thought something was wrong!” I told him I must have accidentally done it and apologized.
He was probably thinking . . this is what life is going to be like with my crazy mom nearby.
They have been working in this weather. He said the guy who rides with him calls him every morning to see if he wants to work. Chad said “Of course .. no work/no paycheck”. I don’t know how they do it when it’s this cold. He said most of the crews aren’t working but Chad isn’t about to miss a paycheck. I think he’s thinking next week may be worse with lots of snow and then they can’t work and he surely doesn’t want to miss two paychecks.

That’s the bad part of this kind of job. When he’s working 80 hour weeks in hurricane season, maybe he should save half a paycheck ever week. =)

He’s actually saving a lot but he’s still not going to miss a paycheck. There’s some fancy Jeep he wants to buy and he wants to pay cash so that’s incentive for him to save and not miss a paycheck.

There is going to be plenty of downed trees in Texas! Did you see the wreck near Ft Worth on I-35W!! Aren’t you glad you were not on the road then! They said the cars and trucks were piled up for about a mile or more!
Judy Laquidara says
And people were trapped in those vehicles for a long time. I’m telling you . . I know I would have done what I had to do but just seeing it made me in pictures made me panic. You know most of them saw it coming and couldn’t do anything about it. So, so scary and sad.
I hope y’all don’t lose power! Vince said he has the fireplace ready to light, has plenty of firewood and flashlights. He’s tested the generators so he can keep the freezers running and run the well pump enough to have needed water. He’s ready but hoping it doesn’t happen. He said he drove his pickup to the mail box and before he even got there, the windshield was covered in ice from the rain freezing on contact.

Colder than heck here & will be for several more days, but at least we don’t have freezing rain/ice. Some snow forecast for just about every day and we can handle that.
