It’s simple blockish letters/numbers that I made up as I went. I used one strand and did a back stitch of sorts.
I’m not sure you can see it but I ran a basting thread 5/8″ around outside the stitching. That’s where I will fold it over the foamboard and lace it on the back. It’s so hard to keep it straight while doing that and the basting threads will be my guide.
I’ve done all I can do til I decide on a frame. I had a plan but I think I want to do something else so I’ll order a frame.
I absolutely love it and am so thankful that the first piece I finished turned out to be something I love.
For the record, the finished size, with the border, will be 8-3/4″ x 14″.

Your initials complete it. I have a cross stitched piece hanging up that I see everyday, some days I notice the date,1992. It was a quite a while ago, and much life has passed, the hours I spent making that piece are but a second on my timeline, I am glad it is there to remind me though.

Looks GREAT. I definitely think the date and initials complete it.

Judy, I know you have a framing/finishing plan. Just a thought: do you have enough fabric to lace it to 16×20? All that extra fabric could be the “mat.”
Another topic, once upon a time, when I canned meat, I read that home canned meat must be boiled 10 min when used. I can’t tell from your posts if you do that when you prepare a meal with home canned meat. Not a critism, a request for info. Do you do that?
Third topic, what is the name if the product you use to wash your wool socks? I’ve tried without success finding it online.
A faithful reader.

I’m not sure why I would want to lace it to 16 x 20. The stitching area is 7 x 12 so that would make the matting too wide for the piece in my opinion – 9″ of matting for 7″ of stitching.
Through readers’ comments, I’ve learned to leave 3″ of extra fabric on each side, though on this piece, I used a 13″ x 27″ piece and then was able to salvage a piece about 9 x 13 for using later.
As far as canned meats, yes – I boil it for 10 minutes. I boil any low acid food that was canned for 10 minutes – green beans, carrots. Thanks for that reminder.

Thank you. That’s funny because samplers are the ones I love.
