I thought we had dodged the scary weather but probably about 3:30 the sirens began going off. Chad, Nicole and Addie had gone to Joplin and Neosho today and they called to see if I wanted them to come by. I told them no . . I was still being careful about being around people. Then they called on the way home and said the weather was getting bad and the weatherman on their app was expected sirens to start going off soon. They were about 3 miles from my house so they said “We’re coming to stay in your basement til this passes.”
Before they got here, the sirens stated going off so I ran out and opened the garage door so they could bring their car in. We all went to the basement, kept our distance and I hope no one was sick.
I think commonsense dictates that you don’t risk your kids being in a tornado to keep from exposing yourself to a virus when none of them appear sick and there was plenty of room for us not to stay well over 6′ apart. You never know but I wasn’t going to take a chance on them being caught up in a tornado.
In the end, the all clear was given about 4:15 and they left.

Glad the all clear came pretty quickly……..Hope your weather has cleared up and no more surprises tonight.

Glad you came through the storm… I agree that family rules over any potential illness. If I remember correctly, you are taking the recommended supplements (D, C, quercetin, zinc, famotidine).
The high in OKC was 67 degrees and just a few days ago, I was working outdoors in 30 degree weather. Winter in the midwest!

So glad it is over this time and everyone is ok. I do not like storms!!

I almost called to check on you. We were shocked when the alert came over my phone. Our area was safe, but my aunt and stepmom were in the path (especially my aunt). I called and made sure they’d sheltered. Crazy weather!

The possible alternative is too horrible to contemplate.
Judy Laquidara says
You’re so right. I figured there was a reason they were so close to my house when the scary weather began. I wouldn’t turn anyone away during a tornado warning – especially my family.
Linda in NE says
The virus isn’t a big deal for the majority who catch it. Being out in a car during a tornado can be deadly. You did right by letting them come to your house. I’m glad the storm missed & you’re all OK. Is it usual for tornado season to start this early in MO?
Judy Laquidara says
I am more concerned about feeling bad and having a dog and cat to care for and no one here to help. At least if Vince was here and I caught it, he could take Rita out and clean the litter box! If Chad and Nicole were a bit more careful about where they go, I wouldn’t be as concerned about being around them but they are out and about with lots of people way too often.
Vince has been over 30 days now with no taste or smell and that’s pretty miserable.
Tornadoes aren’t as common in January but they do happen. I heard yesterday that peak season is April – June. When we lived in Kentucky, there were two in January and one was pretty bad with deaths just across the river in Indiana. There was at least one tornado/rotation spotted yesterday but it never touched down, thank goodness.

I would be happy to foster Rita and Boots if you ever need me to. Our house is missing the four legged company!
Judy Laquidara says
That’s very sweet of you. We never leave Rita. She has separation anxiety and with her being blind, I kinda feel like we took her in and now we have a commitment to be with her every minute of every day. About the only place we ever go is to my uncle’s in Louisiana and he loves her. In fact, I was talking to him today and he was asking if I would come see him when Chad and Nicole go soon. I told him I can’t come on their next trip but I will come. He said “Please bring Rita!” I don’t mind boarding Boots but he’s very easy to keep. I guess all cats find the litter box and never have accidents.
Sandi B says
I totally understand about the separation anxiety. Our rescued English Springer Spaniel nearly destroyed our house due to it. We tried keeping him in a crate, but he nearly tore it apart and we were worried about him getting hurt. That was so stressful. Just know the offer is there if ever you need anything at all.

My daughter had Covid at Thanksgiving and is just now beginning to taste occasionally. She still can’t smell anything.
Judy Laquidara says
Goodness . . that was a month or so before Vince got it so he may have a while to wait. I hope your daughter gets hers back 100% soon. That has to be so frustrating.
