Cross Stitched Sled Ornaments

A Good Marriage Progress

If you even halfway think you might want to cross stitch, please head over to Denise’s blog and read this post.

Denise had mentioned these to me but they sounded kinda scary since I still don’t really know what I’m doing (what else is new?). I’ve asked a million questions . . probably the same four question 250,000 times! She said “STOP with the questions. I’ll do a tutorial!” She didn’t say it quite like that but she was thinking it I’m sure.

The sleds are not easy to find. I’ve placed an order at a couple of places but it’s websites that don’t do a great job of showing what’s in stock and what’s not. Either I’ll get none or I’ll get a truckload of them.

I wish I had started making these for Addie’s teachers for Christmas but . . no time like the present to start, right?

They can’t be terribly expensive to make. I think the mini sleds are less than $5 and the big ones, which are impossible to find, are about $7. You use perforated paper, which is also not terribly easy to find, a chart and floss and double sided tape. That’s it!

I’m pretty excited about making these . . but it doesn’t take much to get me excited.

Would Vince be able to make a similar sled with his 3D Printing?

For the price of the sled vs. the price of the filament, I doubt he’d mess with it.

Judy, I have been reading but not posting. lol. I have been making Santa since the 80’s. A new Santa comes out every year and they are by Prairie Schooler. They started in 1984 and continue. A new one comes out in July each year and they are all different themes. There is a Xstitch shop in Louisville KY that probably has alot of them (maybe). I also saw some on ETSY but Louisville would be cheaper. Let me know what you think. The Finishing Touch 2004 Frankfort Ave, Louisville, KY 40206. They are closed Sunday and monday. paula in KY

I also read Denise’s blog. I love how you both blame each other for getting started on a new project or a new yarn purchase. The sleds are really cute and quite tempting though.

Sharon — it REALLY IS all Judy’s fault all the time. 🙂

Those sleds are adorable! I’ve recently gotten back into cross-stitch and I think they would be lots of fun to make.

I bought a kit for one of the sled ornaments about a year ago. But – the cross stitch is on brown and a tiny size. I gave up after awhile because it was too hard to see. I need to buy a magnifying light source. But they are so charming, so maybe someday I’ll finish it.

I do NOT need another project! I’m trying to resist looking for the sleds. I may have to join the “blame Judy” club if I give in. (But which Judy? ?)

I made one of the sleds years ago. Lost interest and got rid of the leftover sleds. Wish I had held on to them. Flosstubes have made the sleds a very very popular project….I could have sold the sleds for double the price I paid for them! They are VERY EASY to make!

In Denise’s post, she mentioned not using good scissors when cutting with the double sided tape since it gunks up the blades.

A few years ago I bought some Fiskars non stick scissors. I think I bought them at Office Depot when the school supplies are on sale. It is a shorter blade, about 7″, and you can get different color handles – mine was a zebra print – so it is easier to find. They do work when cutting tape.
