I think of a million things through the day that I’m thankful for and end up with about a dozen that I think will be the ONE that I share but by the time I go to bed, I usually have a clear idea of which one I want to share for the next day’s post.
Today, I am thankful that Vince loves pets!
I had a dachshund (two different dachshunds at different times) for years before Vince and I met but didn’t have one when we got married. As soon as we got settled, I started wanting to get a dachshund and Vince said “No dogs in the house!” WHAT? We might should have talked about this BEFORE we got married! How could he not want a dog . . but he didn’t. I begged; I tried to make deals only a newlywed wife would make . . nope, there was not going to be a dog in the house!
We had been married about five years and I had given up on getting a dachshund. One day after work, Vince walked in and said “Grab a tub. We’re going to get a dachshund!” I couldn’t believe my ears but he had seen an ad for dachshund puppies in the county south of us so I grabbed a Rubbermaid tub, and Chad, Vince and I went to get us a dachshund. There were three puppies and they were so cute. I wanted one that was white and brown but Vince picked Speck and at that point, it didn’t matter which one he picked, I was happy to get it. Speck was always my dog and he wasn’t always nice to Vince but Vince took good care of him and loved him. Then we got Rita, then Boots and then Cat and Vince loves them all. Rita tolerates me but she loves Vince. It will be interesting to see how Boots reacts to him when he gets back. Boots had nothing to do with me when Vince was here but I do think that’s because Vince had been the one spending time with him for over a month while I was already here.
While we were still in Texas, we discussed what we would do with Boots here since he’d have to be in the house. At first, Vince wanted to find a home for him but I wanted to at least try having him in the house. He’s done amazing and I’m thrilled he won’t go into the kitchen. That was my biggest concern – a cat in the kitchen! We’re still working on him staying off the dining room table. I rarely see him on there but it does happen every now and then. He mostly stays upstairs but he goes down to use the litter box so . . Boots in the house is working out way better than I expected.
I do think if I really begged for a dachshund, Vince would let me get one but we have our hands full with Rita and Boots. With wood floors and new carpet, we probably have all the pets we need right now.

We had to put our last Boxer down this month. We lost all 3 in a matter of 10 months. One due to old age and two to cancer. We are best broke to say the least. I’m thinking that maybe in the future I’d like to get another Dacshund, we had one years ago. I have been wanting a cat for sometime but hubby doesn’t care for cats. I’m at a crossroads right now. I’m worried about a cat in the kitchen too. But it’s so lonely and quite around here.

It’s a struggle to know what to do. I wish our good pets would live as long as we do and we wouldn’t have to get new ones.
