I just couldn’t let it go. I wanted to get up in the morning knowing the sewing machines are set up so I went back down and worked more.
This does not mean I’m ready to sew! The cutting table is piled several feet high. I don’t have a sewing chair here unless it’s buried in the downstairs garage. I can always carry a breakfast room chair down til I can buy a chair. We’re going to have to buy several rolling type chairs because I want one at each sewing machine but I’ll move one of those over to use at the serger. We also need one for the downstairs computer. I think we have one already in Vince’s office upstairs.
I need to come up with a plan for those windows. The sheers that are there now have spring rods and the windows Boots like to sit in . . he’s pulled those down so two windows have sheers and two do not. I may end up getting blinds and hopefully remembering to put them up when we’re not in there so Boots doesn’t ruin them. If I’m down there sewing at dark, I want those windows covered. See the nice, deep windowsills? Boots had those in Texas and he loves sitting in them.
I kinda feel like I’d like to have a TV in there so I can watch Flosstubes but . . who wants to tell Vince that his wife who has complained for 25+ years about her dislike for TV now wants one?? I’ll see how much I sew or knit or stitch in there before mentioning a TV.
You may not be able to see it in the picture but there’s a black acrylic/plastic insert that goes around the Bernina that makes it fit in the cabinet. I was thinking . . I’ve seen that thing somewhere and figured it was in the sewing room but it was on top of a cabinet in the downstairs family room, with the one that makes the Bernina 930 fit the same cabinet. I haven’t seen that thing in 10 or 15 years. How on earth did those two things (1) get packed together and (2) end up here without breaking?
There’s no way I’m going to find a place for all the yarn tubs so there’s going to have to be a corner of the room that’s stacked floor to ceiling with tubs. Maybe that will be my incentive to knit faster.
I’ve given up trying to organize the fabric by color and am just piling it on the shelves. I’ll work on organizing it later because I don’t like seeing all the colors mixed up but right now, clearing the floor space, getting things where they go and being able to sew, iron, serge, wind yarn . . that’s the most important thing.
I’m so happy to have the machines set up!

Love that 301! Which machine d id/do you use the most for your quilts?
Judy Laquidara says
I use the 301 for 100% of the piecing, the longarm for quilting and I use the Bernina 1230 for sewing on the binding. When I need to use a zigzag or anything other than a straight stitch, I use the Bernina.
I love that Vince can fix anything that goes wrong with the old Singers and they never need to go to the shop. When I hear about people making an appointment, taking their machines in for annual checkups and then paying hundreds of $$ . . I’m very thankful for the old machines that rarely need attention.
Teri says
Yes! Those machines seem to be so reliable, I hope to find one to buy. Can’t wait to see some of your quilts when you start again. BTW how are Vince & your folks?
Judy Laquidara says
Vince is good. He still can’t taste or smell and he gets tired very easy. I think he takes several naps per day but he’s working hard trying to get the house packed and things done around there. Mom and dad seem fine. Thank you for asking.

Do you know anyone in Georgia who spins wool? I have a friend who is a fiber artist and she asked. I’m a quilter but I told her I had an internet friend who may know. Thanks!

What about a Roman shade? You could leave them up unless you’re down there after dark and want the security and privacy. Just a thought!
Hope to see you sewing soon!

I still need to get my mother’s Slant-o-Matic Singer. That made the best stitches ever!! And the cabinet is like a desk when not in use.

I have cellular shades in my sewing room. No cords, push up, pull down to whatever level you wish.
I have a cat that looks just like Boots and his name is Boots. Technically he is my daughter’s cat that she dragged home from college but she left and he stayed.
Judy Laquidara says
I have two windows that are short and taller (basement) and two that are long windows. I was planning on getting regular blinds with cords because if I go with cellular, when they’re up, I wouldn’t be able to reach them but now that I think about cords . . I don’t think that’s a good idea either. I know there are some shades that can be controlled with a remote but they may be more than I want to spend. I’ll have to think about it.
Linda Garcia says
Blind cords are a dangly thing that my cats love to play with. I think no cords would be better if you are planning on Boots hanging out in the windows.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, now that I thought about the dangly cords, that’s not a good idea unless Vince would install those “anchor” things and we’d keep the cords tightly wrapped around them. I’ll have to rethink that plan.

Bernina has an awesome sewing chair. I just got one and it’s great, but not cheap. Could not find one in the state of Texas. Gail Kessler shipped mine to me. It was worth the wait. HD has blinds with no cords only one small sized dowel to open & close the blinds. They have worked out great. Also was just able to get the 1st Covid shot, due to my health issues in San Antonio, no lines, no waiting just 30 minute sit to make sure there was no reaction. And Feb. 19 the 2nd shot. Still going to be cautious though. Great to hear your parents & Vince are doing much better.
