The people we bought this house from . . the wife is an amazing housekeeper. You really could eat off her floors. I have never seen one thing out of place in her house. Of course, when we bought the house, we didn’t sign anything agreeing to keep the house immaculate so . . I’m not real worried about it. Even when I think my house is remarkably clean, they show up and I noticed there’s a stack of folded clothes in the recliner that I meant to take to the bedroom; the vac hose is still out because . . why put it up when I’m going to vacuum again in the morning and there’s no one here but me; there are a dozen empty plastic mailers on the dining table because that’s where I was opening packages and organizing the cross stitch projects.
She is also an amazing decorator. Their house always looks like something out of a decorating magazine. Mine . . not so much. I have visions of beautiful cross stitch samplers on my walls but for now, it’s all fabric and floss . . not yet stitched. We did bring some things to hang on the wall but we never got around to it while Vince was here. So . . not one thing has been hung on a wall. Well, I take that back, there is one thing on the wall.
Addie’s school’s fundraiser had a cardinal wind chime and since the mascot for the schools here is the cardinal, I had to have it. Vince was already gone when it arrived and I have no idea where to hang it so, to keep it safe, I just stuck it up on a nail the former owners left in the wall in the foyer. After they left last night, I thought about that wind chime hanging on the wall. She isn’t a judgmental person but she had to notice that and think . . that lady needs some decorating help. I do but the wind chime isn’t staying there . . probably! 🙂

I have to wonder if it’s a gene thing. My sister is a decorating queen but literally asks me to sew on a button for her. I received the creative crafty gene to make quilts and other craft items. We are both good cooks (I’m better…lol). One of her daughters is a decorating and housekeeping guru…the other one not so much. That one is a much happier person.

In your defense, you have been doing most of the “putting away” by yourself. And I would be willing to bet if you showed up at her house at the right time there would be things out of place. Besides I think a messy house is a sign of a brilliant mind! LOL My story and I am sticking to it!! Most artists think this way! And you are an artist, whether it be knitting, quilting, sewing or cross stitch. There are things more important than putting away laundry, like cross stitch or knitting!! LOL

I’ve always said my house is decorated in Early Salvation Army… With all the clutter there’s no place to decorate in my house so I don’t even give it a second thought. Luckily the only visitors I ever get are my own family… they know we’re slobs, so I don’t even worry about it anymore. I’d love to live in a house that was nice and neat, but even with everything cleaned up, with the ceilings falling in and buckets to catch the water, there’s no way the house is ever going to look good. I’m glad I don’t have to feel uncomfortable when former home-owners come to visit! 🙂 I’m sure you do just fine!! 🙂

My daughter’s former mother-in-law bragged that “I don’t know anyone who keeps their house as clean as I do.” I just felt sorry for her that all she had to do was clean!

I’m not sure an immaculate house is something to aim for. It seems like an excess of time and effort, and lack of…more interesting things to do?
