This is so fun and so relaxing but I hate to put it down and time passes too quickly. I had planned to fix lunch yesterday and I looked at the clock and it was 2 p.m. I did stop and fix lunch . . a girl has to eat!
That’s how far I’ve gotten. Isn’t it pretty? I can’t wait to finish it. Now that the big title is done, I’d love to get two lines done each day but I doubt I can do that.
At some point today I want to go through my floss and see if I have what I need for Farmhouse Christmas. Also, not today probably, I want to mark off a grid as to where each of the nine blocks will be stitched so I’ll be ready to start on February 1.

Won’t Vince read your blog?

Slim chance but the very few times he does . . it’s always when I have something I’d rather him not see.

Beautiful, Judy!

Cross stitch always seems to take longer than I think it will. I’m terrible at estimating!!

I have determined I am a slow stitcher, but I don’t care. I find it so relaxing and I look forward to it each day. I think changing colors slowed me down and I have seen where people have several needles threaded in advance to solve that issue. I may try that on Farmhouse Christmas since there are not a lot of colors.

I pulled colors this morning and was pleasantly surprised at the few number of colors. I think I’ll join you in keeping extra needles threaded.

It’s beautiful!!!

You can totally do 2 lines per day. It goes fast! Love the beginning of this.

That is so pretty!!!

I love it! The actual stitching looks so much prettier than the picture.

It is going to be beautiful….what cloth are you using…
Judy Laquidara says
It’s 32 count linen – color is Lambs Wool (I think).

This is so pretty! Can’t wait to see it finished.

I am curious what you think about cross stitching on linen? I have only ever used Aida cloth which is really easy to do but using linen really looks to be out of my comfort zone. While finished projects are nice to have, to me, it’s the process that I love whether it’s quilting, sewing, stitching or knitting and crocheting. Soothes the frazzled nerves. Judy, your stitching is beautiful.

Counting little holes is counting little holes . . and no matter what I’m using, I think this proves I’m not quite right. I was thinking last night . . I’m sitting here poking thread through tiny holes in fabric, and I’m the one who’s often commenting on crazy things others do (like sit and watch TV).
I used Aida when I cross stitched probably 35 or 38 years ago (before Chad!). I love the hand dyed linens and it’s the colors that cause me to use those . . not so much that it’s linen. I bought a bunch of small pieces just to see what the different colors are and the different counts so I’m playing with those. The Marriage piece is 32 count so it’s equal to 16 count Aida. I’m using magnifying glasses (not to crazy about the magnifier on the lamp I bought). It’s not that hard really. Today is much easier than yesterday.
You’re right about the process. I think that’s why I have so many quilts needing binding and sweaters that are almost finished. I hate finishing a good book and it’s hard for me to put that final stitch in and be done. I’m excited about coming up with some finishing options on the cross stitch so I hope I’ll stick with it til the end and not have a million WIPS hanging around.
Thanks. My stitches probably look better from a distance than up close but I’m still basically a beginner so I’m not going to be too hard on myself.

Thank you for the advice. I think I am just going to have to give linen a try because the finished product is beautiful. I think when I began cross stitching around 1982, I only remember white and cream Aida in the various stitch counts. Times have sure changed. I am glad I kept all my DMC skeins from back then. Love the needle minders. I remember searching for needles a lot in the couch. I would say I miss the most how good my eyes were back then. Lol.

Impressive! Your stitches are beautiful! I’m eager to learn/do cross stitching. I’ve almost gathered everything I think that I need to start cross stitching now!
Judy Laquidara says
For me, it was so hard to start . . I guess I’m always apprehensive about starting new stuff. Yesterday was the first day I spent a lot of time doing it and today was so much easier so . . don’t give up.
