Speaking of Speakers

The Bad Breaker

This is a weird rendition of a story because I cannot figure out how or when this happened.

Vince never drives my car unless we’re going somewhere together so I’m trying to recollect where and when he was driving my car and I wasn’t in the car with him. I’m going to think about this all day!

One day, probably in early summer, Vince was somewhere in my car and I wasn’t with him. He called me and said “Why is there a speaker rattling in your car?” I said “I don’t know. I’ve never heard a speaker rattling in my car.” He said “It sounds awful.”

The next time I was in the car, I didn’t hear a speaker rattling but on one of my trips back from MO, it started. It sounds like a blown speaker but we don’t listen to music that loud. It’s in a door and the car is 13-1/2 years old so I’m guessing the door got slammed too hard and damaged the old speaker.

The last time I was in the car . . a couple of weeks ago . . that speaker sounded horrible. I called Vince and said “The FIRST thing we have to do when you get here is get this speaker fixed.” He said “I’m not taking apart a do10 or panel. We’ll take it somewhere and get it fixed.” That’s what I meant . . one of us will drive the Highlander to the speaker shop. One of us will follow and pick up the other one so we can leave the car there.

I think I’d go nuts in the car without music and with that speaker . . I’d rather not have music.

I’ve tried fiddling with all the options and taking the sound off the right side and that does help but I figure I’ll make less than a dozen trips to Walmart to pick up groceries, and it’s about 5 miles one way, before Vince gets here and we can get that speaker fixed. I can live with it til then.

Could you drive Vince’s vehicle? Or, where is the shop to get it fixed? If the weather is nice enough, you could take your knitting or cross stitching and enjoy a sunny afternoon outdoors.

I can’t drive two! I have to drive one there, leave it and come home and right now, it’s a bit chilly to be sitting outside. This isn’t one of those things that HAS to be done now so it can easily wait til Vince is back. I prefer for him to deal with that because if they say it’s going to be $1,000 to fix it, he’d probably want to just disconnect that one speaker and leave it be. Those are husband decisions. I CAN make them but there’s no need. If it was something that actually affected being able to use the car, I would figure out a way to get it fixed.

I think it is smart to wait for Vince to do it. That way if it costs too much he can do like you said.
