Remember the other day when we thought we had lost Boots and I kept re-enforcing to Addie that we never use the front door?
Yesterday I was on the phone with Chad, my brain was on overload and I was not thinking. Rita had to go out. I picked her up, put her leash on her, opened the front door and out went the cat. I screamed, dropped the phone and figured I had probably scared Chad half to death. I opened the door, shoved Rita back inside, closed her leash in the door so she wouldn’t fall down the stairs.
Boots did what he did the few times he got out in Texas . . took about 6 steps and froze. He wanted to run back in the house where he felt safe so I grabbed him, opened the door, put him down inside.
He and Rita were standing there face to face . . no growling; no hissing. Rita isn’t allowed on the carpet; Boots isn’t allowed in the kitchen so they’ll never be buddies but at least I didn’t have to break up a fight.
This all took way longer to type than the actual time it took to happen. When I picked the phone up, Chad was still talking . . didn’t even know I had just had a near emergency situation here.
I hope I’m more careful. I did call Addie and I told her . . you know the one thing I’m always telling you to never do? I did it and Boots ran outside. She was totally frustrated with my carelessness! 🙂
I will do better!

So sorry he scooted out BUT so glad he “froze” and you were able to scoop him up.

Nothing like being scolded by an 8 year old, especially when she is right. lol. She’s so funny. Love your stories about her. So glad he froze and emergency was averted. I have had several pups escape thru to gated fenced in area. The gate was not secured. (My fault). One was my blind dog….found her sitting in the middle of the road “looking” around. The others headed up the highway. I finally found them on their way back home, trotting along the side of the road. Big old Boris tagging along with the Chi in the lead. They were so proud of themselves. My poor heart.

You’re right about the heart. It happens so quickly and they can easily be lost forever.

But at least now she knows it can happen. You acted fast and got the situation under control.

I have a friend whose cat liked to dash out the door. He’d go ten feet to the driveway and start rolling around on his back. Silly boy! Another of her cats would run up some steps and go under the fence to the neighbor’s yard. We’d just wait for that one to remember how good he has it INside–he never stayed away for long.
