This post will help you understand why Vince and I struggled living in our little house in Texas with one little family room. You know he’s a TV watcher – from the time he gets up til he goes to bed, it’s on. Not so much any more since we don’t have cable or satellite TV but he still finds plenty to watch with whatever streaming service has the best offer each month.
I terribly dislike TV. I’m so thankful to have a room . . really the whole main level . . without a TV. I don’t even like seeing them when they’re off. I know I’m in the minority and I’m probably terribly opinionated and probably wrong but when I see a house that has a HUGE TV that’s front and center in several rooms, my first thought is . . someone doesn’t know how to entertain themselves. On the other hand, someone walks in here and sees spinning wheels, looms, longarm, too much yarn and fabric and I can only imagine what they think.
Tonight, I’m sitting in my chair winding DMC floss on bobbins.
The stereo (probably a dated word!) is hooked up to the surround sound speakers. I found a local station that plays very old gospel music that I love so that’s on the radio but the volume is down. I’m watching flosstubes and when I hear a song come on that I love, I pause the video, turn the music up, then go back to the flosstube when that song is over.
If Vince was home and upstairs, this would send him over the edge. Of course, I wouldn’t be doing this if he was here.
It’s a therapeutic night for me . . mindless task, music I love and watching cross stitching.
Speaking of cross stitching, I got all the gridding done and was going to start stitching today but got sidetracked in the kitchen, then spent some time picking up sticks in the yard, then unpacked a few boxes in the bedroom. It was boxes I had opened looking for something . . found clothes that needed hanging and they’ve been sitting in there or weeks. Now they’re all in the closet but I do need to do more work in the sewing room . . lots more work in the sewing room!

Judy, I am just like you in regards to TV watching. I couldn’t name one program that is on TV these days. I haven’t watched TV in at least 10 years. I find nothing entertaining about what programs are being shown now.

I used to watch the news til I felt like I couldn’t trust any of the big channels.

I am exactly the same. Hate TV. Waste of time.

I agree but can you imagine what a waste of time some people see when we’re poking thread through tiny holes in cross stitch fabric or knitting socks after paying $30 for yarn for one pair when we can buy six pairs of socks or $10 at the discount stores? 🙂

Would love to know what floss tubes you like to watch. I just recently learned of floss tubes and found a lady up here in the Northwest that does quilting, wool stitchery, and now cross stitch. Through the wonder of YouTube , it has made a tough year not quite so lonely. I am loving watching what you and Denise have come up with and have ordered the patterns for the SAL. Thank you got all your inspiration for me.

I’ll do a post and list some of the ones I like.

TV is mostly just background noise for me. I would rather read, sew, cross stitch, etc. If I’m not working with my hands or my brain, I feel like I’m wasting time.

Have you seen the little plastic bags that you store your floss. Just put in the many skeins of a one color and write the number on the baggie and hold them together with a ring. When you do a project just get the floss you need and put on a smaller ring it goes in the project bag with the cross-stitch…no hours of winding.

I watch TV but I don’t have to have it. Pat thinks he needs the TV and is upset when he can’t watch his programs. I guess it is just how we were raised. I don’t have to have the “best” of everything, but I do like to get good quality and not have to get a new one so often.
