I had ordered a toy for Boots that the advertisement said would get him to exercise. They obviously don’t have a truly lazy cat. The toy has batteries and a little skirt thing with a critter on a stick that runs around under the skirt and the cat is supposed to chase it.
At first, he would stick his paw up under the skirt a bit but that gave him the idea of sticking his paw up under the tree skirt, which caused presents to move around, touch the lower limbs of the tree and caused the balls to wiggle and that was quite a bit of fun til he almost turned the tree over. I’ve now had to remove the tree skirt because during that little game, he realized he could get under the tree skirt and then the presents all got turned over on their sides and moved about. The good news is that he seems to have stopped chewing on the tree. I keep him in the sewing room when I’m not upstairs to keep an eye on him.
Here he is getting “exercise” with his new toy.
If the little critter on the stick comes close to him, he’ll slap at it but he isn’t putting much effort into it.
My kind of exercise!

He’s such a sweet but terribly lazy cat.

Aah if he is chewing on the Christmas tree, he needs some grass to chew on. The grass will help get any fur balls from his throat, and yes he will sick it up, but it will make him happy. You can buy special cat grass, but I use blades of grass from the garden, grown where the mower doesn’t grow. In Australia we call it Kikuyu pronounced ky cue you

We have one of those too, one cat just lays there and let’s it keep smacking into her and another just lays on top of it so the thing cant move.

Cats are truly the weirdest creatures! I wonder who ever thought it was a good idea to have them living in the house with humans!

Just put out some paper bags or boxes of different sizes on the floor. Put cat nip in them every once in awhile. I also got a big stuff rat from Dollar Tree and smeared Catnip on it. My cat loves these things . He throws the rat way high up in the air like 5 foot every night at 8 pm.It is a ritual almost. Plays in the Walmart bags like crazy and box too. He is 25 lbs and huge 3 ft long, so it isn’t size. Boots just hasn’t played enough in his life time. Being out in sewing room by himself. Give him time.

Have you tried one of those flopping fish? It acts like a landed fish.

I haven’t seen them but I’ll look for one. Thanks!

My cat liked the pom poms with tinsel like stuff on them — kids called them sparkly pom poms. He also loved the laser pointer once i taught him to play with it. I had to start with shining it right by his paw and then gradually moved it away. He would chase it down the hallway and up the wall as far as he could jump. The only other toy that caught his interest was feathers on a fishing pole. You can get replaceable feathers with some brands and i saw one advertised on amazon with a supposedly unbreakable pole. My problem was getting one that had a long enough string that i didn’t have to lean over to get it moving in front of him. I don’t remember the brand, though. i found it at Speck’s Pet Store and they show one online under ethical cat dangler which may have been it. These really got my cat moving.

He has the feather on a fishing pole thing and it mostly doesn’t interest him. He loves the laser light but I put that away when Addie is here. I don’t trust that she’ll keep it out of his (and my) eyes.
