Sure enough, on a very cold night with a bit of snow that was melting on the driveway when I went to bed and probably froze during the night, Rita woke me up at 3:45 a.m. wanting to go out. We went into the garage, I put her in the crate. I’ve always told her “Go pee!” when we’re outside, even though she usually starts as soon as she’s on the ground because I want her to associate “Go pee” with do it now! When I put her in the crate, she was probably surprised. I could tell she didn’t feel real steady with the cardboard under the pads but I kept telling her to go pee. She kept walking around and I went back inside. You walk through the laundry room when going into the house from the garage so I went back in and loaded up the washer and got it started. I went back to check on her and she had done her business.
Yay! Hopefully no more middle of the night excursions through the dark, scary, cold outdoors for me.
The bad news is that I started thinking about knitting and never went back to sleep so I’m sure there will be a nap for me within the next few hours.

I’m no good after a nap. I’d have definitely gone back to bed!! 🙂 🙂

Glad the crate worked! Definitely sounds like a nap will be on the “to do” list today.

My key phrase was ‘go potty’ – that was a game changer – especially when we were spending a night in a motel. I’d take her out right before I went to bed – said ‘go potty’, she’d go and we were in for the night.

Congratulations, your furry baby has been potty trained. Their times are 8pm, 11:30, 1:30 and 5:30. I would do once but that is it.

Rita has such tummy issues that if we don’t go out when she says she has to go, there’s an accident to clean up. So, when she says go . . I go.

Both my dogs are deaf. However they know treats after out and potty happen so they both go at 10:30 pm and younger one still needs out at 3 or 4 and she goes then. Both go out again at about 8 or 9 am. Such good dogs.
Nice weather the younger one spends several hours outside to play. Now she gets to run inside right after I see her potty and then she spends time sleeping in her kennel.
Nelle Coursey says
I am so glad that worked! You never know until you try. So glad you will not be going outside in the cold by yourself!
Judy Laquidara says
Me too.
