How could I have two badly bleeding yarns back to back?
Since this project was just one color, I didn’t bother to waste a Color Catcher but there’s a lot of dye that was released. Thank goodness it was a one color project. I’m getting a bit nervous about some of my planned projects that use multiple colors.
This yarn is Cascade which is a commercially dyed yarn (vs. indie dyers) and I’ve always been pretty confident that it wouldn’t run badly but I guess I’ve been proven wrong.
This is the Carbeth Cardigan and while I didn’t love knitting this sweater, I do love the finished sweater. Well . . finished except for sewing the buttons on once it’s dry. I love how the buttonholes were created in the I-Cord edge of the button band. I had never done that before. I also made this sweater a bit longer than the pattern suggested.
Once it’s dry, and the buttons are added, I’ll post a final photo.

Don’t you do swatches prior to starting a project? I can’t remember if you soak and block those little squares.

I always do swatches unless I already have one for that yarn. I keep a swatch notebook and save all the swatches/info so, for the yarns I use often, I have the info about the gauge on different size needles. Cascade Eco is a yarn I’ve used enough to have plenty of gauge swatches. If it had been a multi colored project, I would have cut pieces of the yarn, wrapped them in plain, white fabric, secured with a safety pin and soaked to see if one or all bled. Since this sweater was one color, I didn’t soak it prior to using.

I wonder if part of your problem is the water. Weren’t you using well water before? and now treated water. Just an idea.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes and I think you’re right. Vince and I were talking about that today. He said if you’re closer to the “beginning” of the water line, you have way more chlorine than if you’re at the end. I have no idea where we are in the “line” but we can sometimes smell chlorine. I’m going to start using bottled water for soaking the knits.
That would explain why I soaked that red yarn in Texas before using it and I was confident it had stopped bleeding and here, it bled like crazy. Thanks . . it’s funny that I thought of that a few hours ago and you mention it today too.

Will putting salt in the water stop the bleeding? For some reason I think I have heard of that before. I love the sweater!
