This morning Vince got up and we were both talking about cross-stitching. That man cracks me up, when he’s not sending me over the edge or causing me to contemplate . . well . . let’s not go there! 🙂
Here’s the interesting part of the conversation:
Vince: I found a video by some man and he was really good. I can relate to what he was saying more than I can to some of these women.
Me: What’s wrong with the women in the videos?
Vince: It’s their voices! Those accents. The tone! I just can’t listen to it.
I cracked up because (1) I’ve just recently done blog posts about the frustration with people talking about my accent and (2) Most of the “issues” he and I have revolve around my “tone”. Vince is pretty monotone. He can be about ready to pinch my head off and his tone is exactly the same as when he says “Goodnight. I love you!” On the other hand, I get excited and I talk faster and louder. I get angry and I talk faster and louder. I never yell but I do have a bit of a sarcastic edge sometime . . always have and probably always will. Probably the entire first half of our marriage, we struggled with my “tone”. I would tell him . . when you met me, you liked that I was feisty, said what I thought, and it was easy for you to tell if I was happy, sad, angry or downright mad! Now . . you want me to be quiet and monotone. Can’t have it both ways, dude!
I read this to him and he said “It’s not WHAT you say but HOW you say it!”
Trust me . . that’s not true either. I could use the sweetest tone ever and say “I just ordered more yarn!” and that would cause issues. 🙂
Men! I think I’m going to take all my cross-stitching stuff back and he just do this on his own!

Watch Jean Farish Needleworks flosstube. She is a great teacher. I have learned lots of things that make my cross stitch better by watching her.

We always use the phrase “You tone of voiced me!” when we jokingly talk about each other’s tones. He uses it on me much more often than I use it on him!

What is it with men and “our tones?” I bet I’ve heard “it’s not what you say but how you say it!” So I’m expressive can’t change that after 57 years! My hubby seems to get upset at the least things. You would think he was 8 instead of 84! Lolo of course, being together 24 hours a day can be stressful. Thank goodness we sleep a good deal of that time!
Both of you enjoy your Cross Stitching, I love to do it also but it has been years!

How funny! I think Rosie Greer, a retired football player with the Pittsburg Steelers, has a video about cross stitch and how to do it. Also there is not just the cross stitch, there are a lot of other stitches he can learn.

I’ve been reading your XS posts and I’m thinking you should maybe let Vince have XS. LOL
