Way early yesterday morning I threw 14 pairs of socks into the laundry sink to wash. I put a little Soak detergent in the sink with warm water, put all the socks in, swished them around a bit and left them for a while.
We were taking my car to get it aligned and I told Vince that before we left, I wanted to get the socks out and spread them on the table on the deck to dry. He said “You know it’s going to rain today, right?” Nope . . didn’t know that at all. I’ve lived in Texas too long and forgot about checking the weather before washing my socks.
Therefore, I was stuck finding a place for them to dry in the house. The Windows Wrap still wasn’t dry so all four of the blocking mats that I have seen were being used for that. There are more here but I’m not quite sure where. I was about to get 5 or 6 pairs of socks spread out around the Windows Wrap but the others, I hung on plastic clothes hangers and hung over the fireplace mantle.
When I got up from taking a nap, Vince had the fireplace going and my socks were almost dry! Nice!
I told Vince . . it’s not postcard worthy but it surely does make me feel at home seeing a bunch of hand knit socks hanging on the mantle with a fire going in the fireplace.
Vince is loving these propane fireplaces and he’s had one or both of them going off and on all day. It’s been a cold, rainy evening and whether it’s the ambiance or the warmth, he said “Those fireplaces are a game changer for me. I love them!” I think, since winter is his main reason for not being nearly as crazy as I am about living here, having these fireplaces may be just what he needs to make him happier about being here.

Indeed, those gas fireplaces are magic! We just put one into our Maine house and know it sure beats hauling wood from a snow covered pile.
