I could be wrong but I think the mascot for all schools in this district is the cardinal. I’ve mentioned before that the high school football team kinda rules the state playoffs, probably not every year but many years. This area is known for their great schools and I think that’s one reason houses sell so quickly around here. So many people want their children in this school district. Almost makes me feel bad that we bought a house a family with children could have bought.
Anyway, there’s an elementary school 2 to 3 miles from our house that we pass often and they have one of those nice electronic signs that has messages that change. One of them says the school name, then something like “Where little cardinals learn to fly!”
I LOVE that! I will almost pull over and park, waiting for that little message to flash by. How true . . little children learning what they need to know to become adults. I think that is about the happiest message ever!
I often go out on the back deck to have my quiet time in the morning. One morning last week, I looked up and this cardinal was sitting in the magnolia tree. I thought . . ahhh, you were once a little cardinal learning to fly and look at you now.
Every time I pass that school, or even think about it now, I pray that those little boys and girls will learn to fly; that they have a happy life now and will grow up to have a happy life and they will soar as adults.
Without that sign having caught my attention, it would be just another school but now . . it’s a place I love to pass. I keep telling Chad and Nicole they need to move here so Addie can go to that school . . not happening, but I still like that school.

A bright red Cardinal in a green tree is so pretty to see. I used to have a Holly tree in my back yard, and I got a photo of a Cardinal sitting on a branch one winter. It was such a cool photo!

They say if a Cardinal visits your yard it is a loved family member letting you know they are there for you! Maybe it is your grandmother visiting?? Telling you that you did good.

Seeing Cardinals is one of my favorite parts of winter. The added bonus is that they’re so easy to spot. LOL
