Yesterday one of the couples who came for Thanksgiving brought us a gift!
You’ve probably seen those cartoons where people say they’ve finished their Christmas shopping and all the individual rolls of toilet paper are wrapped and under the tree.
She handed me this and we laughed and I thought . . really, that’s about the most practical gift you can give right now.
She wrote on the ribbon “Welcome BACK to Missouri!
Vince wasn’t standing there when she handed me the toilet paper. Yesterday I had taken a picture, then taken it to the bathroom and it was sitting on the counter. Vince said “Why is there a bow on the toilet paper in the bathroom?” I wanted to make up some big story about it but couldn’t so I told the truth about why the ribbon was on there. I’m not sure he understood that it was a joke but . . at least it’s something we will use.

I’ve seen those pictures – always makes me smile, LOL. And, it’s definitely something that will be used!

Well it is decorated in fall color. 30 or so years ago I gave my brother and his family a year’s worth of toilet tissue as they NEVER had tt when we visited their house. NEVER. They were thrilled. That woman has a good sense of humor.

Up until recently, Chad and Nicole never kept extras of anything on hand. It would be like one of them to have to run to the dollar store so the other could use the bathroom. Every time I would go visit, I would bring at least one 12 pack or larger of toilet paper and leave it there.
Even way before the pandemic – probably for at last the last 15 years, we’d find toilet paper on sale usually in January, and we’d order at least a year’s worth. The UPS truck would back up to the shop and unload 6 or more huge boxes of toilet paper. We had just gotten an order in January before things started going crazy with toilet paper and I was thankful to not have to worry about finding it. I’m not ordering again until I’ve unpacked all the boxes and see how much we actually have. I’m not even sure we’ll be able to order large quantities of it like we did before and probably definitely not at the price we were able to get it in previous years.

We lived in Ohio(6 girls) and my aunt lived in Illinois, she had 3 boys and 3 girls she would lovingly c/o that we used up all the toilet paper…. as adults we started buying toilet paper for he when we visited ! Good memories

You may know, or not, that our sons and the DDsIL have done our shopping since March. (all we have been out of the house for are hospital stays or doctor office visits) On a recent shopping list for Sam’s I included Northern tissue, got a text that in the last couple trips there had been none. Surprise to me! We aren’t out because of my own shopping style, in all those months we are just now getting low inventory!! Never hurts to be prepared, even unknowingly! LOL

Since I am shopping on a monthly basis, I have a standard list of basics to buy even if I don’t need it, yet. That way, if someone looks at my cart, it looks reasonable and not like I am “hoarding” things. I am just being prepared.

I have always had an extra supply of toilet paper, paper towels and other products on hand and early on during the pandemic I had heard they were running out of toilet paper in Japan. This was before things got going here and I stocked up a little extra. That came in handy as a gal where my husband worked was about to run out and couldn’t find it anywhere. We gave her the equivalent of 8 rolls of toilet paper and she was stunned that we would share. I don’t know where my need to have more than extra came from as both my sisters don’t worry about those kinds of things. But I have to say my husband and son appreciate it…lol

It’s a good kind, too. With the scarcity of the stuff still hanging on in places, it’s practical and useful!

And not a gift I’ll have to stick somewhere and keep forever so she knows I still have it! 🙂

when we visit our kids we go to costco to stock up on food. we also get a pkg of toilet paper, a pkg of paper towels, the green kitchen sponges and blue kitchen sponges, and paper plates. those things get split between the 2 kids homes and i know it will all be used!
Judy Laquidara says
And I’m quite sure they’re all appreciated!

Way before the pandemic & TP shortages I would pick up a big pkg. (18-20-24 roll size) of Scott 1000 TP any time I went to a nearby town that had a Shopko (since closed). The only TP our town plumbing could handle well. Mostly I always picked up a pkg. because I couldn’t remember what was left, so it counted up, and that has worked out well this year. My daughter had just bought a LARGE pkg. at Sam’s or Costco or somewhere so she was set too. It’s not hoarding if you know you are going to be using it and are willing to share some with family or friends who may need some. Preparation keeps you from running to the store in a panic among the crowds and empty shelves.
Judy Laquidara says
Exactly. And, I don’t consider it hoarding when we bought it when there was not even an idea that there might be a shortage, plus it’s something I’ve always done. Now, if I heard tomorrow that there was going to be a shortage of snails and I went and bought every can in the county . . that would be hoarding.

For probably the past 25 years, I’ve taken the giant package of 36 rolls of tp from Costco whenever we’d go visit the kids. Mainly because I couldn’t stand the bargain basement stuff they had! Since the pandemic hit, though, Costco changed their tp. Loyalists are not at all happy! (We’re stocked up with our normal amount from Sam’s Club, though, so I have no experience with it since that time.)
What a thoughtful gift! Humorous, too!

Until the pandemic hit, and my husband began buying the scott 1000 rolls, I’d never tried it. Now that I see how well it works in our systems, I plan to continue to buy it. So clouds do have silver linings!
