My guess is that the heating pad for Rita must make some little click when it goes off because when I set the one in the breakast room, I always set it for 12 hours, which is the max time allowed. Yesterday morning I happened to glance at the clock when I was taking Rita into the breakfast room and it was 5:29 a.m. Yesterday evening, she started barking. Vince looked at the clock and said “It’s time to feed her!” I said “And reset the heating pad for 5 hours.” If I turned the heating pad on at about 5:30 a.m., and she started barking on the dot at 5:30 p.m., it should not have even cooled off yet so she’s hearing it go off and has learned that whatever sound it makes, she’s about to get cold.
One of Addie’s assignments for last week was to draw a picture of a family member or pet and write a story.
Addie drew Rita on her bed, with the heating pad. The black thing is the cord and the round thing is the remote for setting the temp and time.
I didn’t tell Addie that Rita looked more like a scorpion but her story was funny. It was something like “Granny’s dog sleeps on a heating pad all day. She only gets up when it’s time to eat or go outside. When the heating pad goes off she barks and Granny has to turn it back on again for her. Rita does not have eyes.”
I didn’t ask her why she drew eyes in the picture. I’m thinking that even though she has accepted that Rita doesn’t have eyes, it’s hard for her to draw an animal without eyes or, maybe it’s just a habit. Everything she draws has eyes so Rita got them in the drawing.
What’s weird to me is that Addie’s other grandma has a dog with just one eye. They think his eye was injured in a fight with another animal and had to be removed. How weird to have two grandmas; one with a one eyed dog and one with a dog with no eyes.
Even Chad commented yesterday about how surprised he was to see how well Rita gets around. Of course, she stays in the kitchen/breakfast room, laundry room and sewing room area so she didn’t have to learn her way around the entire house, but she seems happy and content with the new arrangements.

LOL. And, how many legs does Rita have? Kids are so funny.

I think some of those “legs” may be her hair because it looks like some of them are sticking out her back and under her chin . . though she’s a short haired chihuahua . . I didn’t ask questions!

The tongue sticking out reminds me of a childhood clay project. I meant to make a dog with its tongue sticking out, but it turned into a rabbit with a carrot in its mouth!

I love this. It is very creative. She used her imagination and came up with this all by herself. Looks better than what I could have done at that age!!

I had to chuckle at the drawing and then the thought occurred to me how wonderful it was that she has so much to write about! Think how boring the story could be!

So cute! I have to say I immediately thought of a mouse and a trap, since we recently had that experience! I love that Addie wrote about Rita.
