I’m kinda hoping Vince doesn’t bring his old pickup here. We’ve spent a fortune in car repairs since getting here.
So far, on the Honda Vince has had the timing belt changed, other belts and hoses changed, radiator replaced, brakes changed, shocks/struts changed, fuel pump and water pump replaced. That’s all I can remember.
I had an appointment this morning to get my car aligned because it just started pulling to the right – just barely. Vince thinks it’s fine but I notice it. When we got it to the alignment place, they looked it over and said all the shocks/struts needed to be replaced and they recommended doing that before we had it aligned. They wanted over $1,800 to do it and, it may end up costing that much but we took it to the mechanic in Carthage that we like so he’s going to do it tomorrow.
I think most people try to put off car repairs this close to the holidays so we’re lucky he’s been able to get our cars in and get them fixed while Vince is here and we can do the drop off/pickup without having to bother other people to come get us or take us to pick up a vehicle.
I do hope after getting the shocks on my car and then getting it aligned, we’re done with car repairs for a while but . . with cars the age of our vehicles, you never know. I’m pretty confident there’s nothing else wrong with my car. Vince drove my car to the alignment place so he could go in and talk to them about it. Addie and I came a few minutes later in the Honda and after all the work that’s been done on it, it drives like a new car . . really . . and you know how much I’d like to replace it with a pickup. The mechanic told Vince people people drive those early 2000 – 2006 model CRVs for close to 400,000 miles. I don’t think that one will ever get close to that many miles, at least not as long as we have it.

My father-in-law has a 2002 CRV with over 375,000 miles on it and still going strong!

There you go! Exactly what the guy told us. Vince wants to know if he can buy it! 🙂
Seriously, Vince has read that those CRV models and the 2007 Toyota Highlander, which we have, are some of the best years of the best vehicles and he’s proud of our old workhorse autos.

So glad you are getting the vehicles in fixed. I would hate the thought of you being there and not have reliable vehicle to drive. I think I will keep my Jeep for a long time also! It is a 2016 Cherokee Limited. We have not had a lot of problems with any of the Jeeps we have owned.

Vince is leaving his car here so I’ll have a backup but I’m sure mine is fine. We’re coming up to having snowy, really cold weather soon and I won’t go out much but I’ll have to keep them both driven enough to keep the batteries charged.

When I drop off my car at the Honda dealership for maintenance, they give me a ride to work. I asked about their shuttle vehicle once a few years ago. (I think it was a Honda Pilot, maybe a 2004 model). They told me it had over 400,000 miles on it. Of course they always had a mechanic right there to take care of it, but still that’s a lot of miles. If I kept my current vehicle until it had 400,000 miles, I would probably never own another car…

We’ve always been Honda or Toyota fans. I hate that they aren’t “American” but so many of them are assembled in the U. S. and so many American cars seem to be made with parts produced in other countries so I’m not even sure “Buy American” applies to any of the vehicles any more – except or the stigma of the name. For us, any vehicle we can buy and have it last for 13 – 20 years with almost zero repairs . . I’ll take it! We’re like you – it took 20 years to put 165K miles on the Honda. I don’t think we’ll be driving in 20 years so doubtful either of our vehicles will ever reach their max mileage. The more I read, hear and research about new cars, the happier I am to keep our old ones. Once they’re no longer dependable, I’ll be ready for a change and after having kept them as long as we have, I won’t feel bad at all about spending the $$ for a new one.
