It’s just a traditional Thanksgiving menu for us:
- Roasted Turkey
- Baked Ham
- Giblet Gravy
- Mashed Potatoes
- Sweet Potato Casserole
- Green Bean Bundles
- Cornbread Dressing
- Rolls
- Watergate Salad
- Cranberry Sauce
- Pumpkin Pie
- Chocolate Meringue Pie
- Whipped Cream
There will be 7 of us and I’m hoping for lots of leftovers!
The turkey is in the fridge defrosting. Here’s my plans for getting things done:
Sunday: Bake the biscuits (done!)
Monday: Bake the cornbread.
Wednesday: Make the pies. Bake the sweet potatoes. Steam the green beans and assemble the bundles. Put the turkey in the brine. Saute the celery and onions for the dressing. Boil the giblets.
Thursday – the big day! Roast the turkey, bake the ham, bake the green bean bundles, the sweet potato casserole, make the rolls and bake them. Make the giblet gravy. Make the mashed potatoes.
I think that’s it!
I’m thinking I should have room in the wall oven to bake the turkey and one side dish – either the green beans or the sweet potatoes. In the regular oven, I’ll bake the ham and the other side dish. I should have room in there to move the ham over and bake the rolls or I can take the ham out, tent it with foil, and bake the rolls.
It’s holidays when I’m very thankful for having two oven!
Anything I’m missing??

Judy, do you put the whole turkey on the table at mealtime…or carve in the kitchen and serve on platter?
Dottie Newkirk says
Pecan pie, LOL.

Looks like an excellent Thanksgiving dinner to me. Almost the same as ours except apple pie instead of chocolate meringue pie. ( although I think I would prefer the chocolate pie myself).

What is Watergate salad?
Kathleen R Robin says
What about cranberries to go with the turkey?

We’re doing without the mashed potatoes and gravy this year, because there will be just 3 adults and one child. It is my favorite part, but not everyone else’s, so I will make them another day with the turkey gravy and have them all to myself!

Hi, Judy! I am wondering why you are baking biscuits on Sunday if they are for your Thanksgiving meal?
We will be just the two of us this year due to COVID 19 running rampant in our neck of the woods. We’re having turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes with gravy and 2 kinds of pie. I may do cranberries, but hubs doesn’t care for them and I believe we will have more than enough food — for days!
Happy Thanksgiving ? to you and your family!

We are foregoing the potatoes and dressing in favor of Mac & cheese. It’s more popular at my house and I’m cutting back on carbs and leftovers. I’m going to try the fresh green bean casserole instead of the canned beans with soup. Hope you and Vince have a great holiday with your family.

I will be doing new potatoes with cream sauce and bacon in it. Turkey, dressing, gravy and cranberry sauce. Pat has asked me to make him an applesauce pie which I am going to do. Only thing about being a diabetic is giving up the deserts and not so many hot rolls! I may use the Splenda instead of sugar though! The next day we like to have our pie warmed with a slice of cheddar cheese on it!

My hubby and I had a discussion last night about Thanksgiving pie. I asked what kind of dessert do you want? He said, Chocolate pie, the kind with Miracle Whip in it.
I said, You mean with Cool Whip? He said, Yes, where you make chocolate pudding and then put in Cool Whip. I said, Then whipped cream on top? He said, Yes, Reddiwhip, so I can have some on my banana split.
I said, I could cut up some chocolate and put it on top. He said, You don’t understand. I want whipped cream on top.
I said, Have you seen pies with little pieces of chocolate sprinkled on top? He said, Yes, I want that.
I said, Ok then. So now I need to make a pie shell.

Glad you two got that resolved. I sent my uncle back to Branson with half a chocolate pie. He shared it with Addie and told her I made it and she was totally disgusted that I had never made her a chocolate pie so that’s why we’re having one.
