Friday night Addie was so excited to get to sleep in the room with Boots. She had visions of him snuggling under the covers with her. She wants to hold him and carry him around like a baby – big 20 pound kitty that he is. He’s more of the mindset that if he wants loving, he’ll let you know and it all happens on his terms.
I had planned to sleep on the sofa downstairs and let her sleep in the room with Boots and as I expected, she thought it best if I slept in there with her.
Vince set up the blow up bed for us but I know we have a better blowup bed. We have one that’s a queen size and taller. This one was awful. Even Addie complained that it needed more air so I added more air but it still wasn’t comfortable.
Boots was happy to find himself a cozy spot in the bed . . til we got in bed, then we got in his windowsill to watch the happenings outside. Addie kept calling him; I was sleepy and ready to go to sleep. A couple of times, he’d come over, see what we were doing but he’d always go back to the window.
I’m mindly allergic to cats. Being in the same room with Boots doesn’t bother me terribly – a good bit of sneezing and some watery eyes but if I pet Boots, then rub my eyes, my eyes will puff up a bit and really get itchy. With him in and out of our bed, I was sneezing, then my throat got itchy and I told Addie I was going to sleep on the sofa. She had to stay in there by herself. She decided we should go upstairs and get in our beds. Vince wasn’t even asleep yet. He said “That lasted about as long as I suspected it would.”
The blowup bed has been deflated and put away – hopefully never to be used by me again. Boots can sleep anywhere he wants – just not in the room where I’m sleeping.

I wondered how that would go. And, cats (at least one we always had) did pretty much what they wanted to do, even though most of them were very lovable. Definitely not like dogs that love people so much they seem to love snuggling a lot more than cats do.

LOL I was envisioning an all night affair until you said Vince wasn’t even asleep yet. Sometimes it’s just easier to let kids do stuff you know won’t turn out well. If you wouldn’t have let her try there’s no telling how long Addie would have pestered you about it.

You know it. She would have kept on and on about it so I knew it was best to do it, let her see that it wasn’t what she was hoping it would be and now that’s done!

I had to chuckle – because everything with cats is on their terms. For many years, whoever got home from work first got about 15 minutes of lovey-dovey snuggles from our cat. He demanded some attention. Then he was done! But he did sleep at the foot of our bed most nights until he got too old and frail to get up onto the bed anymore. That last year, he demanded to be lifted up and loved up in bed – for about 15 minutes. Then he wanted down and returned to his other favorite sleeping spot. I definitely miss that.

Well you tried it and now Addie knows how it will end up. She just had to be shown and she will soon learn that cats have a mind of their own and you don’t own them, they own you! LOL Glad she got to see what happens when you want to do this.
