Can We Just Stop Talking?

Some days, I wonder (1) if we’ve always had this much trouble communicating and (2) is it getting worse as we get older?

Tonight Vince opened a bag of some kind of flavored popcorn. He had already finished with what he wanted and I assumed he put the rest of it in a zipper bag but an hour later, we had this conversation:

Vince: Do we have any clothespins here?
Me: Why do you need a clothespin?

I was asking because we don’t have a clothesline but we have some kind of metal clips that look somewhat like clothespins but I don’t even know what they are or where they came from . . just something that got discovered during the move.

Vince: I want to use them to close up the popcorn bag.
Me: Yes. Look in that box right by the door. There’s a plastic bag with some kind of metal looking clips. I’m not sure what they are or where they came from but I think they will work.

Vince was playing a game on the computer. It was literally five minutes later . .

Vince: Huh?
Me: Huh what?
Vince: What did you say about the clothespins.
Me: Yes.
Vince: Yes what?

By this time I was laughing so hard and he didn’t even know why I was laughing. I got up, got the bag of clips.

Me: Will these work?
Vince: Yes! I like these. Where did you get them?
Me: I don’t know.
Vince: What are they for?
Me: I don’t know.
Vince: How long have you had them?
Me: I don’t know. They were in a box I opened. That’s all I know.

What are we going to do with each other? 🙂

I had to laugh at this conversation….It sounds so much like one that takes place here on a daily basis. We also have the times one of us gets mad at the other for not answering a question or for not doing what we were asked to do. Neither of us heard the others request for various reasons. Like standing at the kitchen sink with water running and them shooting from the other room…..

You just gotta love & laugh. Bob says that together we have one working brain – there are days I’m not sure about that.
