I’m so messed up on the dates. I never pay attention to the calendar. I have been thinking for two weeks that this coming week is Thanksgiving. Nope . . it’s not. I told Vince . . it’s a good thing I found out because I was going to take the turkey out to start defrosting on Monday (tomorrow).
The plan was for Addie to come here on Tuesday after school but the school district has decided to shut down and do online classes Monday and Tuesday before Thanksgiving so Nicole asked if I would do that here and, of course, I said yes so I thought she was staying today, through Thanksgiving and maybe even through the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Nicole said “You’re a week ahead . . that’s next week!” Darn it. I was so sure we had this coming week together.
While they were here for lunch, Addie told me that she wants to make pasta; she wants us to put a blowup bed in the sewing room so we can sleep with Boots; she wants us to hang the bird feeders (that we had to take down when they cut the trees); she wants to make cookies and help with Thanksgiving dinner.
I’ve been talking to her about starting things. She doesn’t do well with finishing what she starts. We’ll start making cookies. She’ll mix it all up but when it’s time to roll out the dough, she wants me to do that. Then she’ll ice a few and she’s done. So, next week (or whenever it is she’s here!), we’re going to make a list and prioritize. Whatever she wants to do first, we’ll do it but she has to stick with it . . start to finish, including cleaning up, or we’re not going any farther with our list. It’s time she learned . . but we’re not going to let her see all my started knitting and quilting projects! 🙂

I also thought that this week included Thanksgiving until I checked the calendar. I’ve been sick, but not sure with what, so we are still taking the C19 precautions.
Whew – I still have time to get to the store for the turkey. I thought I missed it all and was going to have dig through the freezer to have lamb or a pork tenderloin, though those are not bad alternatives.
Here’s to everyone being healthy for the next few weeks!!!

Sorry you’re under the weather. Hope you’re better soon. And, I’m glad I’m not the only one who is confused about the date.

I’m not sure if I mentioned this, but I have a rolling pin from my mom that is for the cookies that you have been talking about. I never used it, but I will try this season. There are 12 patterns on the roll. I don’t think Mom used it, but she was the type to just buy interesting cooking items and books. I have a pan that looks like the skiver pan you were talking about… I need to take a pic and send it to you..
But, that will happen when I have more energy…

Hahaha!! Grandmas are allowed to follow the “Do as I say, not as I do” system. 🙂 Have fun with Addie!

Well in your defense the knitting projects are different. You can’t usually finish the knitting project in 1 or 2 settings and then someone has this beautiful yarn on sale and of course you have to buy it and start making something with it and so on and so on. But making cookies is a different story. You have to mix the batter, roll out the dough, cook them and ice them and you have to clean up after yourself. It is not something that you can put off until later. As with all the other things she has suggested. And Boots may not want anyone messing with his space! LOL

I laughed out loud. Excellent lesson though.

Well, I’m glad you straightened me out on Thanksgiving — I thought it was this Thursday also! I seriously doubt I would have figured that out on my own.

Y’all make me feel better! First it was the time change . . now Thanksgiving. When did life get so confusing? Oh . . yes, when I turned 65. 🙂

Oh! Ya’ll are gonna have so much fun. I am excited for you.

Life got so crazy when Vince retired. How to keep track of the days when he does not go to work.
As for the cookies. My daughter and granddaughter came to roll out cookies after I made the dough and chilled it. When they were iced and baked all left and left me with dishes. I was so tired I called my daughter to come back and do the dishes. And she did. Granddaughter had cute baby to take care of and lives further away so I did not call her.
Ruth says
Oh Dorothy, I would have called a daughter to come back and clean up too!! I have four daughters, three sons, (plus 6 spouses) and I think we do have to continue to teach our children how we want our homes to function. Besides, there is more to learn from baking cookies than just icing a few and wandering off to something else. My youngest daughter liked to bake and cook and leave the mixer beaters in the dishwasher. I had to tell her to please clean them off and put them away so they would be clean when I wanted to use them.
Not much getting together now….sadly.
