You’re probably wondering where are my pictures of springerle cookies now that I have the molds.
I need baker’s ammonia and anise oil to make them. I could make them without the baker’s ammonia and/or the anise oil but that’s my preferred recipe.
First Problem:
I have both baker’s ammonia and anise oil in Texas. I hadn’t brought them with me because, when I came here and had room in my car, I didn’t think about it since I had no idea I’d ever find the molds.
The last thing I asked Vince to bring was my knife sharpener and it’s a tiny, hand held thing and he said “I don’t have room in the car for one more thing!” I figured it best not to ask him to bring the baker’s ammonia and anise oil.
Second Problem:
I ordered both baker’s ammonia and anise oil from the same place on Amazon. It was to be here this past Sunday but I figured I wouldn’t get it til Monday. I didn’t get it Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday. On Wednesday I called and was told “It may be lost but it may be arriving late. Call back if you don’t have it by Monday!” Do they know how badly I want to make cookies? The more important question . . do they care? That would be NO!
Yesterday morning I looked online and it said “Your order appears to be lost! You may ask for a refund. There was a “refund” button to click. I clicked it and then it told me “Please wait another day. It could be arriving late.” Grrrr!
I called, ended up getting a refund.
At that point, I decided I could find anise oil in Joplin and I’d skip the baker’s ammonia. Nope, couldn’t find anise oil in Joplin. There’s a kind of old fashioned pharmacy in Webb City so I called them and yes, they had anise oil. $35 for 1 ounce. Amazon has 1 ounce for $12. I ended up ordering both baker’s ammonia and anise oil from other sellers on Amazon. One thing (can’t remember which) may be here Sunday. I doubt it but we’ll see.
I do have almond extract and anise extract and if I get desperate, and I may, I might try making cookies using one of those.

I’m 65 years old and have never heard of baker’s ammonia! I’m now headed to Google to see what it is and how it’s used. Now you have me curious! 🙂

I was wondering what the anise oil was for– so hope it gets to you soon. Let us know where you store your cookie molds 🙂

Definitely! I think I’ll make a mental note to check on them at least once a month. Maybe I’ll put them under my bed.

You should check into sending Amazon items to a different address, if you can. I send stuff from Amazon to my son, who lives just 8 minutes away but often when I compare, it will say it will get to him sooner than me. Then a package often gets to him a day earlier than estimated. I have ordered something in the morning and it is to him by the afternoon, where it says it would arrive to me 2 days later. There must be a distribution center that includes him, but has a cut off that does not include my address.

I can remember going to our tiny village pharmacy growing up to get Mom some Baker’s ammonia (ammonia bicarbonate) – she had a rolled sugar cookie recipe that used it. Now that’s a memory from the dark recess of my brain! LOL

When you said anise oil, I thought maybe you were making pizzelles. My mom made them every Christmas. My husband doesn’t like the anise ones because they taste like licorice. So she always made some lemon or vanilla for him.
