Boots has to be the absolute best cat for someone who isn’t a cat lover. I do not like cats to rub up against me. I do not like cats that meow a lot. As I typed that, I told Vince . . I rarely hear Boots meow. When I’d be right outside the sewing room door doing something and he wanted me to come in, he’d meow but other than that, I never hear him. Vince said he meowed a lot when they first started the trip here. That reminded me that when we would take him to the vet, he’d meow a lot in the car. Vince said after about an hour into the trip, Boots calmed down, stayed quiet and pretty still the rest of the way. Also, Vince said Boots rubs up against him. I don’t think he’s ever done that to me. Weird.
He seems to be doing so great with his adjustment to the new location. I was a bit worried about how he was going to handle it because it is such an adjustment – going from living in the sewing room where he had a good bit of time alone and having the run of the place, to being in a different location with everything different, having a dog in the house, having us around all the time.
So far, my limited knowledge of cats tells me he’s doing fine.
This morning we were down in the sewing room working and when Vince was going out to put boxes in another room, Boots escaped into the rest of the house. I stood back and watched him. He stayed downstairs. He got to the stairs, looked at them as if they were a wall, and walked away. He went into every room downstairs – sniffed around, then went back into the sewing room. We left the door open so he could explore, which he did, and always came back to the sewing room. I guess that’s going to be “home base” or him.
I wonder how long it will take before he ventures up the stairs. Cat goes up and down the shop stairs all the time and it seems like he did that since he first started going in the shop. He felt safe up there. He could see what we were doing from afar.
We have someone going over once a week to fill up Cat’s big food dispenser but Vince said he’s seen less and less of him. He knows something is up and he isn’t happy about it. I’m not happy about leaving her but there’s no way we could have brought her here.

It sounds like Boots is settling in. He will want to explore and sniff things out for a while. The items in the sewing room probably smell familiar which is why he keeps returning there.

Boots is so beautiful. I’m glad to hear that he is getting brave and starting to explore.

He is beautiful!! I know he will feel right at home and will love it! All those window seats where he can lay and watch what goes on outside.

Boots is a very handsome boy! I think he was rubbing against Vince because he thought you were gone for good so he was sucking up to Vince so he still had a human to feed him, hang out with him and clean his litter box. LOL

It sounds like standing back and watching him was the right thing to do–you’re letting him explore on his own terms.
I do hope the fact that Vince has seen less of Cat means that she is checking out her options; maybe finding another family? You’ve done what you can!
