Poor kitty. I know he’s frustrated because his pupils are staying big and black.
Vince brought him in first. Addie and I had setup the litter box. Vince brought in the kitty water and food bowl. Years ago, (like 40 years!) my mom bought me one of those “handmade” quilts at the department store and I still have it . . because you know . . I never get rid of anything. I had it in the sewing room in Texas. Boots loved laying on quilts so I figured that one had been around for a long time, had a few rips, so he could sleep on it. The movers brought it here so I had washed it already but thought maybe that might be something Boots would feel comfortable with so I took it to the sewing room. I can’t tell if he slept on it or not. I don’t see any cat hair on it.
He lets me pick him up but there’s not much snuggling and he never did purr last night or this morning. He won’t let me hold him long, he wants down and he walk around checking things out.
This morning he had eaten some and there was evidence in the litter box that he had peed and pooped so I’ll pay close attention the next few days and make sure that all continues to go well.
I hadn’t even thought about it but the sewing room is one of the main areas where we’ll be working while Vince is here and that’s going to mean moving boxes in and out so keeping him in there isn’t going to be easy but we’ll figure something out.
I’m just happy to have all my family here together. Wish Vince was staying for good but maybe being here for a while will give him the incentive to go back to Texas and get things finished.

It’s going to take a few days for Boots to figure everything out, but, it won’t be long before he’s your sweet, loving kitty once again. Happy for y’all!

Yes, there will definitely be an adjustment period for Boots, but he’ll adapt quickly if he’s like most cats. Enjoy! 🙂

It’s hard to see them stressed, but give him time, he’ll come around. When we moved, it was at least four days before one of our cats came out of a closet except for very brief periods in the middle of the night.

I’m happy for you that Vince and Boots have arrived safely. I’m sure Boots will relax after he has been there for a few days. Ours took about 2 weeks to really appear comfortable and confident in his new surroundings. He hid in our closet and in our bed, where things smelled familiar.

Be patient. When my daughter brought her cat and dog from San Diego to SW Missouri it took about two weeks for the cat to get friendly. She hid in closets and also laid on fabric in boxes on a top shelf in the sewing room. She was also terrified of the overhead room fans if you acted like you were going to turn them on. “Big bird is going to get me.”
Judy Laquidara says
Someone else had mentioned fans. There were none in the old sewing room and none in the new sewing room. There are some upstairs so it will be interesting to see how he reacts to those.
Priscilla says
Big black pupils are a sign that a kitty is scared. That long ride and the tire episode were scary enough, now he’s in a strange house even though there are familiar things and people in it. He needs a few days to explore and figure out that the new house is a safe place and settle down. Be super careful about doors because scared cats will run out an open door. Every time he gets allowed into a different area of the house he’ll go through the wary exploration stage again. He’ll soon be back to his purring self.
Judy Laquidara says
Maybe but when I’ve been in the sewing room with him, black pupils mean he’s had enough of me and he’s fixing to attack.
Thanks! He does keep wanting to escape out of the sewing room. There are so many strange sounds. He’s never heard traffic sounds and that’s some of that; Vince and I are up and down the stairs. The room where Vince watches TV is just outside the sewing room. We’re still moving things around. Heck, even the smoke alarm just outside the sewing room started chirping this morning. He’s never heard that. Poor Boots.

So glad you are back together! It is so much nicer when you have your loved one there and don’t have to only talk on the phone. I hope he stays at least through Thanksgiving.
Judy Laquidara says
Yes, he will stay through Thanksgiving. He will leave his car here, fly back to Texas and any future visits, he will fly. Since he doesn’t like driving, that will work much better for him.
