It’s kinda fun being able to eat what I want to eat, when I want to eat. Vince is definitely not picky but I know there are things he doesn’t like and he eats on a total different schedule from how I like to eat. You know I don’t like going out to eat. I seem to have a love/hate relationship with frozen meals from the grocery store. I know not to go to the store when I’m hungry but I seem to do it way too often. Those frozen dinners look so good when I’m starving but way too often, like 99% of the time, they disappoint.
This one looked so good when I was in the store. I almost didn’t get it but kept calling me back. Yesterday I fixed it for lunch.
I fixed it, along with Pioneer Woman’s Crash Hot Potatoes.
The frozen dinner was really . . ok. First, it was recommended that it be baked in the oven for 70 minutes. That’s ok on cold days. I wouldn’t want to do it during the middle of summer. My only complaint about the food was . . sage! I’m not a huge fan of sage so maybe it’s just me but I thought the sage was overpowering. Would I buy it again? Probably not, simply because of the sage but for someone who likes sage a lot, this would probably be good. I was thinking later that if I had made some kind of sauce to go over it, like the green peppercorn sauce I’ve been wanting to make, that might have diluted the sage. Since there were two of them in the container, maybe today I’ll fix the other one and make the green peppercorn sauce and see what I think.

My problem with frozen meals is the amount of salt. I try to limit salt due to blood pressure

I have the same problem with meals and not wanting to eat when my husband does! He wants dinner every night…I could go without or just have a piece of toast at dinner and be perfectly happy with it. I don’t eat much. He does. He runs 3 miles a day before work, then exercises, then goes to work all day. I understand, but I have very little appetite, don’t exercise and need a whole lot fewer calories than he does! Oh well, he makes his own dinner most nights…guess I can’t complain too much. 🙂

Marie Callender’s chicken pot pies are really good dinners on a cold night.

Thanks! I’ve looked at those and never bought them but I do love pot pies.

I don’t usually buy the frozen dinners for this reason. I like to season my food myself. I can’t handle a lot of salt and these seem to have a lot in them. That picture does look good but I think I would have passed as well. I don’t even like frozen pizza. If it was just me I would probably only eat 1 or 2 meals a day and not very much then. I am proud of myself, I haven’t even been doing snacks!

I don’t usually buy the frozen dinners either but here, I don’t cook a lot for just myself and most any prepared foods I buy are not great but better than nothing and better than going out so I’ll eat the frozen dinners til I can get enough of my own frozen meals in the freezer.

I don’t like frozen dinners mostly because of the meat. To me, the chicken ones seem rubbery or have pieces of questionable origin and the beef ones are either chewy or slimy in texture. I can eat a chicken pot pie if I take the chicken out and just eat the crust, gravy and vegetables.

I’m with you but several of the dinners I’ve had lately weren’t bad.
