Tapioca pudding isn’t something we ate growing up but I like it. The other day a friend and I were talking about the foods that are getting harder to find . . again . . and she was telling me that nowhere in their area could she find tapioca. Of course, I couldn’t stop thinking about tapioca pudding after that discussion. I found some online but it was the large tapioca. I normally use the small pearl tapioca or pudding but I was desperate so I ordered it.
Yesterday evening I decided to make tapioca pudding and found this recipe using large pearl tapioca.
I made it and tried it but I’m thinking it will be better after a night in the fridge.
One thing I loved about this recipe is that the eggs were separated, the whites were beaten and the sugar was added, then that was added to the cooked pudding. You can see the egg whites in the pot above. More sugar was added to the yolks and they were added while it was cooking (before the whites were added).
I have almost two quarts of pudding in the fridge. Who needs ice cream? 🙂

I like tapioca, but I usually make it in smaller amounts. Checking the recipe you gave, it says “stirring constantly… for one hour.” Did you really stand there for an hour stirring constantly?? I’ve never put that kind of attention into a recipe. It looks delicious though.

No! I did use a double boiler though.

Sounds delicious! I love it. I may have to give it a try.

My mom always separated the eggs for tapioca pudding….after the pudding was cooked, the whites were beaten like meringue and then folded into the custard. It was always such a special treat.
It’s funny – I was thinking about tapioca pudding yesterday – must be the cooler weather and thinking of comfort foods. Enjoy your pudding!

I love tapioca pudding. I also have some of the large tapioca, and I never really want to make it. I also have the regular size which I normally use. When my Mom died, one of her good friends brought me a big bowl of tapioca. She made it where you separate the eggs and fold in the beaten egg whites, and it was so fluffy and good. It was the best comfort food ever! Maybe I should make some tapioca this weekend…

My husband and daughters all love tapioca, but I do not. Luckily my mother-in-law loved making it and she shared generously. So I haven’t actually made it in close to 40 years, and it will stay that way.

Loved tapioca pudding as a kid, probably still do but haven’t had homemade in decades.

I love Tapioca pudding and after hubby had his wisdom tooth taken out last month, I ended up making it a few times for him. It was so good hot off the stove.

Just remembered, the movie “New In Town” with Renee Zollweger has tapioca pudding as an ingredient in the movie. It’s a great movie!!

My mom made tapioca pudding but I’ve never tried to. We had a recipe for a dessert salad that was made with the large tapioca, but I’ve never made it. It’s one of those things I’d have to eat the whole batch myself because hubby wouldn’t touch it. I’ll just drool over yours. 🙂 It sure looks good!!
